ASTANA (TCA) — On February 20 in Hanoi, the head of Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) Kanat Alpysbayev held talks with the Minister of Transport of Vietnam Truong Quang Nghia and General Director of Vietnam Railways Vu Ta Tung on bilateral transport cooperation, KTZ’s press service said.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Association of exporters of agricultural products of Kazakhstan and Kazakhstan’s Food Corporation.

After the meeting, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Vietnam Railways signed a Memorandum of cooperation in the field of logistics and international transport, particularly for organization of container transportation from Vietnam with transit through China and Kazakhstan to the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union countries and in the future to Europe and back.

In the framework of the Agreement on a free trade zone between the EEU and Vietnam, it is planned to increase trade from 4 billion up to 10 billion US dollars by 2020.

The Kazakh railways company recently organized a pilot sending of grain through the Kazakh-Chinese container terminal in the port of Lianyungang (China) to the port of Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam.

The talks also discussed organization of transportation of Kazakhstani products to Vietnam and tropical and seafood products from Vietnam to Kazakhstan.

The parties also called for an increase in the supply of agricultural products, which will have a positive impact on the growth of cargo traffic between Kazakhstan and Vietnam.

Inter connectivity is good, this will only strengthen China-Vietnam-Kazakhstan relation and make one belt one road the future of Asia. I rather want to see cooperation than confrontation and bring peace and prosperity to Asia.

Ignorant people like to claim that China is surrounded by a lot of enemies but they ignore that China has most neighboring countries on earth, if we provide the connectivity to all our neighbors, we will regroup over half earth's population for trade and good exchange... who want to make enemy when they can make prosperity out of trade.

I think we need to further encourage the connectivity.

Generating economic/trade dependencies is considered one of the reasons for the extraordinary process of regionalization and community making in Europe. In that regard, what East Asia has lacked so far has been dependency.

Especially those of us in Northeast Asia, ours being extremely competitive export driven economies, we really did not feel any need to sort out our political differences with each other because we did not have much economic dependencies.

Even today, Korea could go ahead with THAAD despite enormous trade with China. Because, it is just a trade but still lacks true dependency.

In my view, dependencies are created through real, physical connectivity. The OBOR exactly aims at generating dependencies (on China as a market, logistics hub, and technological innovator).

This is how can we move from being merely a region (not even in the true sense, in fact) into an East Asian community.

Welcome move by Vietnam.

Vietnam is always open for cooperation. As always in the case in history. It may run against Chinese strategic interest to have a rich and powerful neighbor in the south without natural barriers, but it's time to move on and I am pretty sure it lies in the long term interest of China to seek cooperation instead of confrontation.

China never see Vietnam as an enemy, by nature a bigger nation usually dictate the smaller nation next to them.
