HANOI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The participation of Vietnam in the China-ASEAN Expo and the 11th ASEAN-China Business and Investment Summit to be held in China demonstrates the support of Vietnamese government for its enterprises to expand their market access abroad in general and in China in particular, an official said here Thursday.

The statement was made by Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a regular press briefing in Hanoi.

According to Binh, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will take part in the ASEAN-China Expo and the 11th ASEAN-China Business and Investment Summit in China's Nanning, Guangxi from Sept. 14 to 16 at the invitation of the government of China and the leaders of Guangxi.

The participation of Pham Binh Minh in the summit and the expo is to foster the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China, particularly in the areas of trade and economy, as well as to strengthen the friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit among Vietnamese localities and Guangxi, China.

The activities will also contribute to furthering ASEAN-China relations, said Binh.

While Vietnamese exports are facing, or have been subject to, antidumping tariffs in many nations, the Southeast Asian country has, for the first time ever, decided to levy duties on steel imports from four markets to protect domestic steelmakers.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a decision on Friday that import duties of up to 37.29 percent will be imposed on cold-rolled stainless steel shipments from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan for materially hurting the domestic steelmaking industry.

The decision, which came after more than a year of antidumping investigation, will take effect on October 5.

Chinese-made cold-rolled stainless steel is subject to duties ranging from 4.64 percent to 6.87 percent, while the respective tariffs for Malaysian and Indonesian products are 10.71 percent and 3.07 percent, according to the ministry.
