What's new

Vietnam Metro Transportation

most Chinese including yourself laugh when we ask for $60b for HSR. because we are poor thus lack of capability to payback loans. if we have money, we will build of course all subways in one go.

yes buses have own lane. but it is useless when other cars violate the rule stepping in the bus lane. VN cities need urgently subways up and running.

Our city government finds investment on ourselves.

The new HCM airport has a three-phase planning. The last phase is planned to be completed till 2050, which makes more sense than you post claiming "$50b for infrastructure for the city in the next few years."
View attachment 384094
I can understand when you say we are nuts. How can a city ever have the money to finance all the projects? Impossible. Anyway the $50b number comes from HCM party chief. Not me.

http://m.english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/...for-infrastructure-development.html#ui=mobile

The airport construction was scheduled to start 2021, but now the start should begin in 2018 because the existing Saigon airport is helplessly overcrowded years before anyone had previously imagined.

Our city government finds investment on ourselves.
So will Saigon. The city will sell lands to get the money.

The very big different between Vietnam (and almost all developing countries) and China is that, although we both can think big and plan big, China can use its own money and its own tech, while Vietnam depend on both foreign capital and foreign tech.

Same with some European colonizers, like French and British. In the past, they could plan well since the money for such planning were cheap money, coming from plundering and robbing the colonies. Without worrying about finance, even a newly graduate can plan a city with grandiose projects to stun the world.

Think big and think out-of-the-box is easy, but do big is very different story.

When did I mention your country as "nuts"? I'm just asking some very basic and natural questions based upon the HCM city economy situations. I believe every international investor/creditor will ask the similar question when he/she hears the news that HCM alone needs $50B, because the amount is even larger than the HCM GDP, needless to say the HCM government budget size.

For example, in the past 5 years, China spent about 15T RMB on infrastructures. The 15T RMB covers all traffic infrastructures like expressways, railways, HSR, airports, harbors, pipes etc. 15T RMB is a huge amount of money, but considering China's economy size is around 70T RMB, the amount of 15T RMB doesn't sound too weird.

But could you imagine, e.g. if China said it plans to spend 30% of the GDP on HSR alone, or Shanghai said it needs a huge amount of money that larger than the Shanghai GDP for infrastructures improvement? I don't dare to think of this even in the dream!

I understand that Hanoi or HCM urgently needs better infrastructures! I think my city Shanghai needs the same whenever I encounter traffic congestion in Shanghai. But that doesn't mean we could dream for something that we could not afford at all! I think I need a Ferrari urgently, but will any Ferrari dealer lend me a 30yr/0.5% interest rate loan?

Think big and think out-of-the-box is easy, but do big is very different story.
very very true

bro I understand you. Reading your post I remember of the words of many chinese posters here saying viet members should stop posting vietnam economic news, because first, Vietnam is nothing in front of China, almost irrelevant, a waste of web resources.

And second, we are too primitive mostly living on trees eating banana, hence there is no need for infrastructure.

Is that what you want to say too?

No, I am very clear and firm. Vietnam should not brag and be practical.

Do not talk about HSR when our conventional railways is still primitive and we still have to rely on foreigners on virtually everything, from capital to tech. Depending too much on foreigners will destroy any country, even it has shining infrastructure. This kind of unsustainable development has brought misery to many countries.

You are a foreigner of Vietnamese descent with limited knowledge about Vietnam, so I do not take your words too seriously. Just exchanging opinions.

the aiib chairman was for talks in VN recently. Saigon alone seeks $50b for infrastructure for the city in the next few years. We will see if we get some yuan from the bank.

Definitely this is not what I would want you to say.

And I would never say Vietnam is nothing to China or Vietnamese members should stop posting news regarding Vietnam.

First, Vietnam is a neighbor of China, a geographic reality that nothing can change, so, your wealth is in a sense, our prosperity, as well; even if no single yuan comes into China, the stability and good life you enjoy will have positive impact on us and others.

Second, I actually urge you to share more news of development nature. This is what we need at the moment; de-securitize a little and concentrate on development and what we can actually do together on a win-win basis. I would not even be critical of TPP news if it were not presented as a tool of coercion, or a policy of hostility rather than a means to promote people's well-being.

China's economic development does not have to come at your cost. And vice versa.

As for questioning the HSR project you explain here; it is very normal people ask questions. Similar calculations are being made on all large projects. Every construction news related to China, Indonesia or Thailand will have financial background; otherwise, members will ask how it will be financed, etc.

No prejudice or hostility here.

You accuse Vietnam government of bragging when she plans HSR and makes it public? The government seeks money and technology from international partners and you accuse her of stupidity?

If you dislike every vietnamese news just move on no need to liken everything what Vietnam does with China. Yes I live in Germany hence I know too little while you in Vietnam knows everything. Even more than the government of Vietnam.

Why don't you just shut up?

Oh I almost forgot. You are ethnic chinese.

No wonder it is your dream like 90 pct of chinese: Vietnam should ride bikes in the next 1,000 years.

@Carlosa

I should say your world view is very antagonistic, pessimist and hostile. It is easy for people to assume that now that you are so hostile even in a friendly exchange you actually have an agenda but not are after truth.

You should stop to be obsessed with China so much. And your calling for help from a foreigner won't look good.

ha ha ha no, we are not obsessed with China. the more correct word is wary.

Lý Thường Kiệt, a Vietnamese general during the Lý in the 11 century, once said, the heaven sets up a border between Vietnam and China, separating the Viet and Chinese people. nobody should violate it. he said it, because China with her allies the Cham and Khmer launched a three front war against Vietnam.

The sad truth about @Viet is that he tries so hard all these years portraying Vietnam as some kind of a rising power. Just like the smart Indians here who have said that the Indian Media is constantly comparing India with China as if Indians have something to proof to the public or the world. This Overseas Viet too has something very similar in common with the Indian Media. The threads he creates are pretty much boring, uninteresting, totally unimportant and frankly the comments plus articles he posts are generally of garbage quality. The constant recycled usage of calling Chinese members clowns, "we don't care", "go see a doctor", "go jump out of the windows" reflects how childish he in fact is. To be taken serious at least act mature, that's basic requirement we all expect when we have a decent debate in this forum. One does not tell other members here to commit suicide if he can't argue back or have nothing decent to contribute. The jealousy is very evident when he often mentioned that 99,9% of the threads in this section are Chinese news so by creating threads of little importance to utterly crap he hopes to put Vietnam on the map. It's almost like the Indian media screaming for attention. An example is that insect thread, he created a sensational title: Entobel Vietnam can solve world food crisis. For crying out loud, first of all it's a Belgian company and secondly Entobel never said it can solve famine issue. Just because the company is expanding in Vietnam does not mean Vietnam can solve any SH!T. Next King Kong movie catches fire in Vietnam, NO SH!T is this even worth mentioning?
so Chinese members open threads after threads promoting CCP, Xi Jinping, Chinese communism is ok, but if I open a thread on King Kong movie made in Vietnam is not ok? Garbage is from where you look at it. many people outside China have no interest of CCP, in case you don't know.

as long as I don't create thread that violates the forum rule, I make it. if you think there is a VN thread that is not of your interest, then you can move on.

From the biggest TROLL of the forum. You even troll your own holy viet military thread by flooding it with garbage that have nothing to do with viet military hardware procurement or military defense industry. It is understandable because vietnam is too poor to buy and too primitive to produce weapons so you try to make up for the quality of the thread by flooding it with trashes, lol. All members of the forum can see that 99.9% of the content of your thread is trash. You either post picture of a viet queen, cheap news such as port call by some ship to vietnam, vietnam war story, geopolitical news, u.s political news, visit by viet official to another country, and then rumors bs and you top it all with king kong movie in vietnam, lol. Did i miss anything? You and that fake spaniard post the same trash. You troll yourself, nobody trolls you. Congratulations for creating the lowest quality military thread on PDF, lol.
Vietnam is stuck in old age and it is a fact nobody troll you in that. Your HSR is a pipe dream, you don't even have a frigate you only have 2 mini 2k tonne gepard corvette so don't even dream about destroyers you clown. your total expressway is less than 300 miles in length and what the hell is a super duper highway? Lol.
And yes you do have ak47 and FDI investment. The kind of investment that keep you barely above water.
you are off topic dude. this thread is about VN public transportation.

.
At least i'm not the only one who share this view, look up and you see there are others voicing similar comments about your behavior. Sure you can open threads about the most garbage topics you can find. Keep it up :rolleyes1:

Oh by the way why complain earlier about Indonesians posting hundreds of Indonesia destroying Vietnamese fishing boats news? They might as well keep posting it as long they don't violate forum rules.... double standard?
come on how about peace

very interesting. You quote Li's poem, but you put the poem in a language that Li himself could NOT recognize at all!! I would suggest you to learn some Chinese, that will help you better understand your ancient poems or history.

Here is Li's poem in his original words. I add the Pinyin so you can know how the poem is pronounced in Li's original words.
南國山河南帝居,(Nan Guo Shan He Nan Di Ju)
截然定分在天書。(Jie Ran Ding Feng Zai Tian Shu)
如何逆虜來侵犯?(Ru He Ni Lu Lai Qing Fan)
汝等行看取敗虛。(Ru Deng Xing Kan Qu Bai Xu)

Good poem, quite good rhyme in Chinese.

I know of Ly poem in original chinese character, but the poem contains an aggressive tone, I translate it in a soft vietnamese tone.
