As in the article, it’s the big three: Japan, RoK and Singapore. Then in far distance, followed by Taiwan and HK, Other countries are not mentioned. No surprise, Singapore as the guy with deep pocket is always at the party.

.
It appears Vietnam Fdi is stagnant which not a good sign. I wonder how can a little country as Singapore attract Fdi of 62 billion USD?

@Mista

They work as investment hub, gather the funds and made them working as investment on other countries by using other Portofolio investment (agency). They working as fund manager and giving option and advice with all of the benefit and obligation for their investor.

FDI in Vietnam has been exploding thanks to the US - China trade war as we can all see

We are an investment and financial hub. Many MNCs set up their APAC HQ in Singapore to reach out to the region.
Phu quoc island in the gulf of Thailand has the size of Singapore. Let’s assume, you are the king there, how would you turn the island into a clone of Singapore? :D

According to WB data, Vietnam’s FDI, net flow in 2017 was $14.1b in current USD. Singapore was $63.3b USD for the same period.

Not too sure how can it has $35b in one year.

I think this is more the greenfield commited totals (or some accounting variant thereof), they take time to actually flow in (i.e what WB shows in your graph) ..i.e they are not an impulse allocation for the same year:

FDI commitment

Like I remember coming across this when I was doing an earlier FDI analysis with India....the greenfield commiting was in the 70 billion+ region...the actual flow (that year) was somewhere more around 40 billion etc (and more dependent on earlier year commitments/announcements/MOUs etc which were being realised at that point).

Thanks but I thought greenfield investment is included in the FDI statistic, together with joint ventures and acquisitions. It also would be too much an accounting variant ie double the size. Um...:what:
