Vietnam Goes Shopping for U.S. Weapons

I take it you speak from extensive personal experience in the military.

Hold on a sec. I thought that most of the people here have had extensive personal experience in the military? How else could they be such experts?

.
I don't think it will come to that. Besides, the PLAAF cannot afford to mobilize most of their combat aircraft against Vietnam without reducing their projection ability in other air commands. Understand?

To do so would be a strategic blunder.

The quote from President Ho Chi Minh stand for "even with poor arms, Vietnamese still stand up for their fatherland, and they are successful by that against variable enemies"

Am still trying to figure out this 'expert' comment: 'Most of US weapons works well inside US military system. But once leave it, these weapons will not be so good.'

How many people here have military experience?

@Nihonjin1051 in the JMSDF

@SvenSvensonov in the USN (personally I think he comes across more as an intelligence officer than a submariner/electronic warfare type)

yourself Mr. @gambit in the USAF

I served 4 years in the Royal Norwegian Air Force - Maritime Search and Rescue was my purview. I'm still in the defense industry, civilian this time.

@Gabriel92 served too, if my memory is correct

anyone else of note?

I see nothing wrong.

For example, U.S. drones work well inside US military system but once you deploy them overseas... wait a second! :yahoo:

Top ten of US weapon suppliers didn't come to the meeting hosted by US Embassy in Hanoi in hopeless.
1. US State Deparment sent the signal : the embargoes would end soon
2. Vietnam MoD sent to US side the list of what they are interested in.

My hunch; he's part of ONI ; Office of Naval Intelligence.

Guy knows overwhelming information on naval systems.

Plus he's also a Ph.D candidate like myself.

LOL!

to becoming an armchair general is not much difficult, take a keyboard and start spouting nonsense....

I was thinking Kontoret för särskild inhämtning - which is the Swedish Military Intelligence and Security Service foreign liaison - it cross coordinates with foreign partners.

Considering he's mutli-lingual, it isn't a stretch. His English is good, his Norwegian is great and his Swedish is perfect.

:triniti:

I'm watching you @SvenSvensonov

:D

Even easier when being right or providing supporting evidence to one's claims isn't a requirement.

Were it so easy...

The problem is that the comment is overly vague, so much so that it is applicable to anything/anyone. A Spetznaz operator works very well inside the Russian military system, but put him into the Chicago ghetto and he is dead meat. Does that make sense to you ?

The great thing about vagueness is that it gives the impression of intelligent commentary and when the majority of the audience is equally inexperience, the commentator usually get away with it. Unfortunately for the Chinese members here, the American camp on this forum is missing just a Marine, else we got the other services covered.

.
The nervousness here is that Viet Nam WILL be just one step closer to the US and by extension, closer to other Asian US allies, such as Japan and South Korea, in the region.

No worse than Chinese weapons such as jet fighters where the only method of attack is collision -- Hainan Incident.
Why did you avoid my question? How much can vietnam buy with vietnam mediocre budget. As if US will gift advanced blk 52 or aegis destroyer to vietnam free. They will probably gift those old junks to vietnam.

You are free to enter an expensive restaurant but afford to eat it is another question.

And why are u so insecure to mention hainan incident which is irrelevant in this context. Is it becos you try to hide the miserable military budget dwarfs by China one? :D

I did not avoid your question. You are not smart enough to understand the context of my original comment. It is not about the quantity of how much Viet Nam can buy from US, it is about the inevitable favorable relationship between the two countries. Your Chinese leadership is more farsighted than you are.

Make an intelligent comment and the Hainan Incident will remain in the background. LordTiredanus is not a very intelligent member here.
