how does it compare with other countries' tariff?

World average is about 15-22 cents per km for one tonne of goods transport via road. We are paying about 14 cents if my math is correct.

Your Point : This route is better than siliguri route so pay us heavily for just passing by where we have to invest almost nothing.

Our point :If we pay heavily then what's the point of using your roads as cost will be same as siliguri route.

Deal are always signed for the benefit of both party and not one.

bottom line: It has to be win-win for both the parties.

Bangldesh is not marketing its road to India. Its India's persistence to allow them the transit. We are merely asking the cost of using it. Roads are built on people's money which Indian tax payer did not pay for.

When I said that the private sector get involved, these Indians just chickened out as they dont want a competitive rate rather a free ride.

Do you guys have huge private sector which can pull off such a highway??? I have my doubts unless you want to involve China to build one for you.

BD should be THANKFUL to India that atleast we are PAYING some amount otherwise BD is just a satellite state of India.

:D We need your wit to lighten up this thread.

It is a simply case of savings for India in terms of time and money. Is it worth paying 1000 tk or for that amount is it cheaper to use the longer Indian route? Either way - even a price of 192 means it will push more private players to use this route and thus lead to higher volumes which in turn leads to more money for Bangladesh. If 10000 tonnes is transported using the same road for 192 - you get more money than if 10 tonnes is transported at 1000 tk.

If you use logic then it is going to fail bigtime. They are not a happy bunch when India gets its way. We just have throw another carrot and that will keep them busy for a while.

It will be a international tender where Indian company could participate as well. The party gives us the most concession will get the job. No biggies.

See, now you are talking about concessions but not willing to give the same to India when it comes to transit.

I dont think you understood the terminology of government contracts with private firms. The more concession the government extract the better the deal the end users get including indian trucker.

Now we have an agreement to allow all south Asian countries (except Pakistan) to use each others road, rail and waterways for trade to a third nation, so apart from Nepal and Bhutan, which is also $50 million trade for Bangladesh (as stated by a BD member), Bangladesh can use Indian transport network to trade with all south Asian and central Asian countries, east Asia when the India-Myanmar-Thailand route is complete, and maybe with China also in future. Now, if the transit fee, tolls & taxes, transport cost, etc. are kept unreasonably high by the participating countries (SAARC minus Pakistan), then the whole purpose of the agreement, that is economic development of south Asia through mutual cooperation, fails to materialize.

What Bangladesh is asking for is Tk 42,320/- for one 40tn container just for passing through a 350 kilometers route, most of which is river ways. Now that's freaking high.....forget river ways, even 8-lane steel reinforced highways (as @iajdani was proposing) won't charge that much of toll fee or transit fee. What Bangladesh is doing is signing an agreement of mutual cooperation but violating it in letter & spirit.

Bull Sh*t, how the hell are we going to trade with central asian countries through india? If you haven't noticed theres a country called pakistan that stands between india and countries to the west! oh and its way cheaper to transport via water then land....Only nation that we need india for is Nepal and Bhutan, period...all other nations are easier and cheaper to transport by ship.

Just keep moving goods through the "chickens neck" and all around Bangladesh, and stop asking for transit.

Since sanctions on Iran is over, we will build the Chabahar port fast for our own route to Central Asia. Besides, your government doesn't seem to share your hostile stand...too bad for you!

Anyway, first return that grant and soft loan of $2 billion (or $3 billion now?) that we have given you to develop your infrastructure for transit route, then talk. :)

Chachabar port?? Why do we need Chachabar port for? We can do trade in Bandar Abbas.. Any problem?

. .
No problem. All you need to do is talk to your own government. :)
Our government dont do trade. If I need to buy bitumen from Iran, I go straight Bandar Abaas not a tiny biny port of 30 mln by so called super duper power Bharat.
