Are we talking about V.K Singh or the Indian Army in general? Cuz Mr. Singh is merely the exception that proves the rule right:

I am talking about all armies not only Indian army.. and certainly not specifically about Mr Singh.

Then the situation you describe wouldn't apply at all. There are no grey areas when it comes to power sharing between the military and the government in nations like India.

There are no power sharing in India( civilian and military). Military is under direct control of civilian leadeship... unlike judiciary which are near independent and has neither parliamentary nor executive oversight.
They are not even at level of EC or CAG (need to be impeached by parliament to be removed), and chiefs can be sacked by govt of the day without any consent from parliament.
Even in order of precedence they are lower than a minister of state in GoI and a deputy CM.

There are very good reason why chief has been kept at that place and should be reminded his place if needed.

Erm...thanks for the Civics lesson. It was well covered during high school.

The better word I could have used would be "delineation." In most nations that show an unhealthy appetite for military dictatorships, there exists grey areas and overlaps of power with the army exercising a heavy hand on the polity. Such a situation cannot possibly arise in India.
