As Home Minister Rajnath Singh started his two-day Ladakh trip on Monday, local political, religious and social organisations have demanded a Union Territory (UT) status for Ladakh.

Following a meeting with local representatives, the home minister said, "They have only one demand and that is a UT status for Ladakh"

Rajnath, who reached here today on his two-day visit to Ladakh region, also stated that the Union Territory (UT) status was the only demand of all political parties, religious, cultural and social organization representatives in Leh

PARTIES UNITE FOR UT STATUS

The all-party delegation that met Singh also comprised representatives from religious and social organisations. They submitted a memorandum to the home minister appealing him to grant the UT status to Leh-Ladakh.

KEEPING HIS WORD

Later, addressing mediapersons at ITBP, Choglamsar, Singh said that he had kept his word on visiting Ladakh, and has heard the demands and aspirations of the people. During his last month visit to Jammu and Kashmir for an all-party delegation meet, he had said that he will visit Ladakh soon.

Ladakhis have always complained that visits by political leaders are always confined to either the Kashmir Valley or the Jammu region, Singh said. "I had made a commitment that I would convene a meeting with all parties and their representatives from Leh district to attend to their demands and aspirations," he added.

KARGIL VISIT TODAY
Meanwhile, the home minister will visit Kargil today to meet local stakeholders, in line with the ongoing dialogue between the government and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Moving away from his schedule, Singh will also make a stopover at Drass to pay tribute to soldiers at the War Memorial.

This is Singh's fourth visit to Jammu and Kashmir ever since the unrest gripped the state following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8.

separate Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir

. . .
So Ladakh wants to be separated from the J&K.

.
i am not for breaking administrative units
in this case ladakh is culturally and physically quite distinct
I quite agree. But consolidating Ladakh is very important. While Pakistan Army Fanboys may live in delusion of a united Kasmir,we all know that LOC is going to be the permanent border sometime in future.
But China has the capability to wrestle Ladakh out of us.So emerges the necessity of bringing it out of Article 370.

. .
it is nothing new
It is actually good for them. Ladakh and Jammu should be declared as a separate territory from Kashmir and both of them should be brought under the UT status. This way we can quietly revoke the article 370. Believe me a separation from that messed up land of Islamic wahabbis will be beneficial for jammu and ladakh.

Evil banya at work.

Instead of talking about giving a union territory status to ladakh, grand full statehood to J&K on par with other states of our union.

If there are trouble over it , put a Presidents rule over it for a 5 year term.

Nobody gonna care if we do it....Not anymore. And its time.

Troubles and obstacles are not from outside but from inside.
@hellfire explained that in another thread.
