The U.S. will continue to support democracy in Turkey, U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said on Oct. 21 during his visit to sections of the Turkish Parliament damaged in attacks during the failed July 15 military coup attempt.

“I would like to express my condolences. People fought for democracy and freedom and the whole world, including the U.S., watched the images. The whole world saw the heroes of this horrible incident,” Carter told reporters during his visit to the Turkish capital Ankara.

“In this context, we will continue to be a strong ally of Turkey. We will continue to support democracy in Turkey,” he added.

The U.S. secretary of defense arrived in Ankara on Oct. 21 for several meetings with Turkish officials on rising tensions between Ankara and Baghdad over the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Iraq. He held meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Defense Minister Fikri Işık.

Following his visit to Turkey, Carter is scheduled to go to the United Arab Emirates for meetings with Emirati leaders.

Lol start treating your allies as equals first

United States policy towards NATO allies and Major Non NATO allies is always good , but there are some NATO member states who doesnt want to understand what really NATO stands for.

I agree, like arming the enemies of your NATO allies, which btw are allowing you to operate from their soil, isnt compatible with NATO doctrines.

Turkish armed forces captured pkk fighter, birth place in ID Kobane, probably came into Turkey as ''refugee'', most likely got weapon and training by NATO allies. :coffee:

I think this correction by US came after their bad experience with Philipines.
In future US would be careful to loosing allies to China.

pkk doesnt listen to öcalan since long time ago, the first thing he said after being captured is ''Im half Turkish, my mother is Turkish'' or ''Im ready to help the state, i promise to finish pkk in 6 months if you give me the chance'' so yeah who would listen to a coward? Though they still use his face on their propaganda which is quite funny to be honest.

PKK is being backed by the Syrian baath party and they operate from the mountains and get weapons from various countries and create problems for the Turkish and Iraqi governments .

Even the peshmergas doesnt agree with PKK .

Get your facts right. PKK doesn't receive any support from Syria now. There was some cooperation back in Hafez Assad's era when relations between Syria and Turkey were not good and 2 countries almost went to war. It all changed after 2000 when Bashar came to power. Erdogan stabbed him in the back in 2011 though, by arming much worse groups compared to PKK. So here we are now.

No they have not. There was no support for PKK after 2000. Actually that was sole reason that Syrian-Turkish relations blossomed after 2000 until 2011 when Erdogan decided to go all Jihadist against Assad.

Yes,Erdogan saw an opportunity in the Arab sping, the oportunity for him to lead a MB type ,islamist populist block. He dreamed a string of pearls with Tunisia,Syria,Libya but it all turned to dust and now the disaster hits home so,he has to try and make his foreign policy not a failure. Now it's about safe zones for refugees, alliance with Saudi Arabia (and this is the funniest one,we'll see it as the fiasco that it really is in a few years,if not less),reconciling with Russia. The thing is ,that,to divert atention from his failure he's using the Kurd scapegoat and nationalism and wants the US to repair and clean his misery. The US isn't really willing to do that, hence all the hissy fits coming from Ankara.
