UK fled North America. USA turned UK into an unsinkable AC carrier....and it still has forces there today. The yanks don't always retreat....the Brits and French do.

The USA could easily turn the current Taliban advance. Strategically though.....the USA doesn't want to waste the resources anymore. Afghanistan is being written off.
