India and the US will jointly develop a jet engine for the proposed Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project and participate in development of Electromagnetic Launch Systems (EMALS) for future aircraft carriers on government-to-government basis under the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI).
Joint working groups on both projects were reviewed by defence minister Manohar Parrikar and his counterpart Ashton Carter during the former’s four-day US visit this month.
Diplomatic sources based in Washington said that Parrikar was not very happy at the speed at which the private companies on both sides were progressing on the Raven hand-held unmanned aerial vehicle and roll on-roll off modules for C-130 transport aircraft. Both items were identified under the DTTI programme last year but little progress has been made as a result of which Parrikar wanted new technologies to be jointly developed on government-to-government basis rather than leave it to the private sector.
While Parrikar became the first Indian defence minister to visit US Pacific Command in Hawaii on December 7, he also landed on US aircraft carrier Dwight Eisenhower off the coast of Norfolk in Atlantic Ocean in a V-22 Osprey aircraft. India is interested in purchasing six attack version V-22 Ospreys for rapid troop insertion in border areas.
Official sources said that while jet engine for AMCA developed by Defence Research and Technology Organisation (DRDO) may take years to develop, the F 414 Enhanced Engine used by F-18 multi-role fighters could be used as a bridge subject to US government approval. Defence major Boeing is willing to make F-18 under the “Make in India” flag, and rival Lockheed Martin is ready to offer F-16 fighters under the same scheme. However, the call between F-18 and F-16 fighters will have to be taken by New Delhi as the former has been successfully deployed on US aircraft carriers while the latter has been in the Pakistan inventory since the 1980s.

Finally this is the Reality.

US will promise help and keep delaying and string India along and then it will be too late. NDA govt. is taking a far too big a Risk by playing into US hands.

These things NEVER End well for anyone other than the US.

US is unreliable state.

it has aided a state that harbons taliban with more than 35 bill $deals while India buys their weapons at premium prices.

India should plead for these tech. It's in interest of GE to sell these engines in India.

GE is taking india for a ride, i hope some magic turns the table and our K9+ or K10 becomes what we need....

GE wants to manufacture the next gen Ge414 engine in India. US is blocking the deal.
To call it a TOT should be a joke.

US is only fooling us.. They r not even allowing mickey mouse tech..Depending on Americans for AMCA should be a blunder.

=>>They want India to buy F-18 if we want GE to make engine in India.
India should dump GE & go ahead with Eurojet if Americans dont sign a deal with in next 18months

Indian government is not foolish they know what they are doing you don't get something just for free, US will ask something in return & we have to compli if we want something ,neither Russia or Europe will give us any input on jet engine now or even in future I guarantee that, there is a mistrust between the two countries due to historic baggage & post like yours only deepen it further ,if technology comes its good if not better to spend more on R&D

Surprised Russia won't give you the engine tech. What kind of ally is that which all Indian posters like to point out?

Man.. India wont get any tech from US....
GE India wil be making and selling 2000 engines for next 30 yrs to Indian air force... Why dont you get the simple thing.

Evn if the deal is signed then its GE India which is owned by GE will manufacture those engines in India. We all know how much of it will be manufactured and how much of it will be brought in as kits. Eventually GE wont be making more than 30-40 % of these engine components in india

Rssian already make AL-31FP in India for Su30 MKI which is +50% made in India-

Come on its just some IP sharing related to installing of Eurojet TVC to ge 414, no need to get hyper exited

For GE, this could be a commercial windfall, providing it an assured market for all India’s indigenous fighters. This would include 100 F-404 engines for the Tejas Mark I, another 100 F-414 engines for the Tejas Mark II; and 400 F-414 Enhanced Engines for a planned 200 AMCAs.

Since an aero engine’s life is about 1,500 hours, each fighter --- with a service life of 5,000-6,000 hours --- consumes 3.5 engines. That means GE could be supplying 700 engines for the Tejas Marks I and II, and 1,400 engines for the AMCA over their service lives.
===================================

K9 which is a 90 KN turbofan engine is with in 5 yrs reach of DRDO.

It shouldn't take more than 10 yrs to fix K10 engine program. Involve private sector and finish the 110 KN engine with in a decade.

While developing and engine with the US is on the agenda. And i hope it truly happens but India will not stop working on its own version of K-10. They have been working on K-10 engine for the last 1 year. But indian engine will not power AMCA but lighter jet LCA TEJAS and also AURA.

AURA will use 52 KN dry thrust kaveri engine.

GTRE is fabricating 20 of latest kaveri engine which produces 79 KN thrust.

K-10 is 110 KN engine.. K-9 is the next of kaveri engine with 90+ KN on afterburner.

K-9 will replace GE-414 .K-10 without 3 D TVC is planned for AMCA

I already said nothing come for free its give & take simple ,if it come its good if not better to spend more on R&D ,US is the best bet right now ,we won't be able to make a decent jet engine equal to F 414 enhanced in next decade even if we start know from scratch I guarantee

England, australia, japan, Saudi Arabia Canada all asked for high tech and wanted F22, now these nations have followed the US supported anywhere and everywhere I everything. Lets not make this a bigger deal than it is.

By the way Russia has given India crystal blade technology, Russia has given India a nuclear submarine, not once but 3 times. They have given India a lot more than u can imagine. Don't doubt their friendship. In the next couple of year India is poised to get much more critical tech from them.
You can take these words to the bank n make sure u put it in a CD
, u will get interest on it.

Russia leased the submarine to you. Not let you built one within your country. Not like Scorpene submarines. We are selling the F-35 which is far more advanced than the F-22. It may be less stealthy but has more powerful sensors and better engine.
