US to give $151 million for Afghan projects

KABUL: The foreign ministry of Afghanistan and US embassy signed an agreement worth $151 million here Saturday for strengthening rule of law and efforts against narcotics.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at the foreign ministry where deputy foreign minister, Javed Lodin represented Afghanistan while US deputy ambassador, James Cunningham represented the US. Javed Lodin lauded the US assistance for Afghanistan and said America was one of the largest co-operators of Afghanistan in the last 10 years.

Lodin said the US pledged assistance for strengthening of rule of law and efforts against narcotics in Afghanistan. He added the agreement of $151 million was signed today.

Meanwhile, the US deputy ambassador to Kabul said: "The signing of these documents today represents a total US contribution of $389 million this fiscal year in funding support for these key programs."

"These funds complement Afghan government funding and help expand our successful co-operation," he added.

It's pertinent to mention that the US has pledged $389 million for the programmes to strengthen rule of law and efforts against narcotics. According to the agreement signed today, the US provided $151 million to the Afghan government today.
