There are, denied, reports that Israeli Commandos have been training the Peshmerga, and PKK since the 80s.

The Peshmerga are a weak fighting force. They do have heavy weapons and plenty of them, regardless of the whole "we are outgunned by ISIS", they are just not experienced enough, and simply couldn't withstand the onslaught from the battle hardened Jihadists.

They have been fighting Saddam's troops since the 80s come on. They are experienced. And they have their backs to a wall, what more motivation do you want? If Irbil falls that's not a slap on the face for the KRG, that's a HUGH FAILURE.
