Pakistan on Monday returned five remaining helicopters given to it by the United States for monitoring the country's border with Afghanistan, sources told Geo News.
The US gave a total of nine helicopters to Pakistan in 2002. Pakistan had already returned four of these choppers on October 15.
The remaining choppers were loaded on a transport aircraft landed in Islamabad on Monday, which is expected to land in the US early Tuesday, sources said.
These helicopters had been in use of the Ministry of Interior's air wing.
The choppers had been used in Balochistan operation and different anti-narcotics operations, according to sources.
These US-made choppers also assisted in counter-terrorism operations.
Sources further informed the return of said choppers will affect all operations including monitoring of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
At present, the Ministry of Interior has no helicopter. All it has are three Cessna aircraft, they added.

[Edit]: a correction must be made. In this case, it seems that Pakistan was the one who decided to return the helicopters, even after the US asked Pakistan to just buy them.

What in the hell was Pakistan thinking, returning them? From what I can tell, the Americans were practically paying for most of the helicopters themselves, and yet Pakistan STILL refused to buy them. Some one needs to be fired.

On the off chance a US gov official is reading this, which I doubt, I apologize and stand corrected. The fault lies with Pakistan, not the US.

However, the rest of my point about Pakistan developing a domestic industry still holds true. If it can produce helis domestically, than it won't ever have to worry about foreigner suppliers ever again.

And then they complain that Pakistan isn't doing enough. How is Pakistan suppose to keep an eye on the border, if you keep crippling their capability to do so?

Still, it gives a good opportunity for Pakistan to further reduce reliance on an unreliable, and increasingly hostile, partner.

I wouldn't be surprised of the US decided to take back the Maxxpros as well, and then complain that Pakistan is taking too long to launch military operations.

This is why a domestic solution is needed. Pakistan should honestly start thinking about JVs with friendly nations, so as to build a domestic industry. The T-129 supply partnership is a good start, but Pakistan needs a proper helicopter industry.

How about China?

You need an engine, preferably a home made one. Iran is already producing domestically made Turboprop/shaft engines. You don't need American garbage after all. For example :
T-129 engine is not available

Chinese is available too.

Bell helicopters are sold in open market for $1 Million to $3 million if we needed something drastically fast we can pick up some choppers

However it makes sense to go with a proper purchase this time around
  • T-129 wrap the deal up or get Z-10s from China
  • Mi-35 M get follow up order done
  • Get ample supply from Italian Choppers
  • Get Mi-19 Choppers from Russia

.
The helicopters were provided as part of the Pakistan Border Security Program that was funded as part of CSF. The return is a routine matter of wrapping up such ongoing programs in an orderly manner, that is all. The 2,500 vehicles and lots of other equipment provided under this program are still there.

The PBSP provided over $65 million dollars of equipment. The helicopters are just a small part of the entire program, and will be put to use elsewhere, due to the great success of Pakistan's military operations to clean up the area successfully.

Think about Chinese ones man! Russia will not provide ToT for Mi-35 or Mi-19's engines.

I personally am not even keen on the Super Cobra , bone that is dangling in air for few months

> Get 40 Z-10 from China these will be at Pakistan Airports in 14 months
> Get T-129 project launched , and it will bear fruit in 1-2 Years at KAMRA
> Get Mi-19 or Mi-35M follow up order to beef up our Western front defences
> Increase order for Agusta

This offers same as Bell, infact it is a more modern alternative

Bell helicopters are good side option considering the ordering process is simple

They took their outdated heli's back. Time to put into motion a project for heli's. For a start Ukraine makes Turboshaft engines which if coupled with the right airframe means beginning to something new.

we should give them their scrap after removing its main parts and damaging these helicopters

Complete Bullshit
