Negotiations is a "process." Their will be a series of meetings, so this is not news.
Trump administration is not taking Pakistani facilitation [for the resolution of current chapter of crisis in Afghanistan] for granted, and this is a positive shift in its position for this region. This is a favor of sorts from US to Pakistan, and a step in the right direction. PEACE in Afghanistan is important for CPEC in the long-term, or Pakistan will continue to experience the fallout of Afghan Civil War.
We bear witness to the fruits of DEMOCRATIC REFORMS in Pakistan actually. Trump administration is coming to terms with the mandate of PTI-led government in Pakistan, and therefore their is a shift in its tone accordingly. Imran Khan is delivering where others failed.
Earlier Pakistani governments were not doing their job unfortunately and/or regarded with suspicion in Washington DC vis-a-vis Afghanistan. And India took ample advantage of problems in Pakistani representation in Washington DC.
Hoping for best possible outcome, but we should refrain from boasting. We do not know what will happen in the future, and neither we have the power to shape it.
