US remains enormous threat to world peace:
The United States continues to pose a massive threat to global peace through its nuclear weapons stockpile and its support of nuclear-armed Israel, an anti-war activist says.
“Nuclear weapons are disgusting weapons that have been found illegal by the International Court of Justice in the 1990s,” said David Cronin, a contributing editor for The Electronic Intifada, an online publication which covers the Palestinian issue from a Palestinian perspective.
“There’s only one country in the world that has used nuclear weapons and that happens to be the same country that Mr. [former US senator Joe] Lieberman hails, in other words the United States,” Cronin said in an interview with Press TV Tuesday.
“It has been 70 years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed and the United States remains an enormous threat to world peace, it has retained its nuclear arsenal,” he added.
Cronin said it is not surprising that Lieberman has accepted to lead an active anti-Iran advocacy organization that is against the nuclear agreement.
The former senator was named on Monday as the chairman of “United Against Nuclear Iran” after the lobbying group’s president stepped down because he supported the nuclear agreement with Iran.
An orthodox Jew, Lieberman has been an outspoken supporter of Israel and was a supporter of the Iraq war and has urged military action against Iran over its civilian nuclear program.
The “United Against Nuclear Iran” lobby group has been described as a neoconservative organization that has used mostly false and fabricated data to encourage sanctions and military action against Iran.
