US put NPT condition for NSG membership, reminds China

This idiotic behavior of Chinese will make sure India to align itself towards other economies.

India should make sure we are not a market for Chinese goods anymore, start imposing heavy duties .

It is apparently high politics where, once again, the US and China vie for influence and say. I do not think even for once it is squarely directed at India. Just like the wealth or health of the Philippines would not mean any less for the US when it comes to the SCS territorial disputes.

Is Mr. Modi going to with President Xi at the SCO Summit? I believe they should have a bilateral meeting and talk about this issue in private.

Besides, China is not the only country opposing non-NPT's inclusion into the treaty/group.

Chinese aren't doing anything idiotic here, they are doing what any opponent is expected to do.

If there is anything idiotic they have done was allowing Indian NSG waiver thereby compromising their own national security.

India has no leverage on China here, unless India succeeds in joining MTCR and trade our NSG membership for their entry into MCTR.

Yes there is leverage, both economically and strategically.

Chinese decision to oppose India's membership is idiotic because India will get the membership.

I am just wondering if they stop importing, then how are they gonna assemble those so-called make-in-India electronics. If they impose high tax, isn't that their own assembling factories will have to pay more?! India is not even one of China's important trade partners like Malaysia and Germany, China to India is.

Looks like the bilateral trade is around 80 billion USD in favor of China. Of course the content of the trade would also be important. I would bet that India benefitted more in terms of value added than vice versa. So, cutting trade with China or closing the market to China would do more harm than good.

Besides, no major power with strategic mind mixes so easily geopolitics with economics. And this NSG thing is not that important to cut trade ties or even to initiate sanctions.

What bewilders me here is that Indians alway link those two things together, at least verbally and vocally. In reality, trade war harms India much more than China, and China has much more margin in trade to buffer any harm. I guess the first thing that will happen if they ban import of electronic components is that multinationals will move their assembling factories to another country to avoid unbearable escalation of cost.

Of course it is easier said than done. I realized that, at the very heated months of the Senkaku-Diaoyudai crisis, China was holding trilateral summit with Japan and Korea for the FTA. This is the great power mentality; as long as it is not an existential threat, economics must be left intact while geopolitical rivalry continues.

India has to open its market to Chinese companies, they indicate serveral times.

And it appears that China is not the only NSG member opposing India's bid. Along with China, five other countries, at least, are listed as objecting to India's inclusion on the basis of keeping up the rules and regulations.

We will learn the details soon, but I anticipate more than 5-6 countries opposing India's inclusion. My experience is that countries are extremely conservative in voting others in especially when they see no practical benefit from it.

International politics has always been status quo oriented. Dramatic changes occur in chaotic times.

And I do not think most of the NSG members have any practical benefit from India's inclusion.
