The United States knows Bangladesh's democracy is "homegrown" and so would not try imposing anything, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday.
"The US has no desire to interfere in our internal affairs," he said after his meeting with the US embassys charge d affairs Jon Danilowicz.
He said current political issues and US' suspension of GSP facility came up for discussion in the meeting.
The minister said he believed the current political situation would be resolved and the next election would be held peacefully.
US is particularly concerned over possible violence before and after elections, he said.
The two main political parties ruling Awami League and opposition BNP have been loggerheads over how the next general elections should be conducted.
The BNP-led opposition wants a neutral caretaker administration to oversee the polls a system that was scrapped by the Awami league led ruling coalition after it came to power.
The Awami League insists on allowing the Election Commission to hold the polls, arguing it is a "neutral enough" body.
They point to six city corporation polls five in the last one month in its tenure as evidence of fair polls because the ruling coalition lost all of them beginning with Chittagong and ending with Gazipur.
