US intends to ‘balkanize’ Russia: Analyst

The United States is using the Ukrainian unrest as an “excuse to expand military operations” near Russia with the ultimate goal of “balkanizing” the Russian Federation, an analyst tells Press TV.

“The US is continuing, along with its NATO partners, to encircle Russia, that is the primary objective here,” Bruce Gagnon of Global Network against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space, said on Thursday.

“It’s very clear that the US intends to break Russia up, to balkanize it like they did Yugoslavia, like was done in Iraq,” the analyst added.

As American troops arrive in Poland, a neighbor of Ukraine, to take part in military exercises in the coming months, Gagnon said many of these ground troops will be “permanently stationed” near the Russian border.

Some 150 US soldiers arrived in Poland Wednesday, the initial deployment of several hundred ground troops across Eastern Europe.

US President Barack Obama warned Russia Thursday that new economic sanctions are "teed up" in the wake of a fresh warning by the Russian foreign minister that attacks on his country’s interests in Ukraine would draw a firm response.

Obama accused Russia of not abiding by an agreement reached in Geneva last week to ease tensions in Ukraine.

The US might dare to fight Syria. The US would never dare to fight Russia. 8-)

Impossible.

Unlike the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has a clear Russian majority.

If you separate them, they will try to return, like the Russians in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

Not really several Republics have an ethnic Russian minority (Chechnya/Dagestan/Tatarstan/Jakutia)

Well, the Caucasus is filled with Republics ready to be Balkanised by the US. They'd better stick with Russia though, after an initial support by the US, they'd be forsaken to become another Armenia.

Better split Texas and California out of the US :p:

This 'story' is from PRESSTV !!! It's fertilizer.

The Caucasus republics are tiny and irrelevant. Russia only keeps them for the symbolic value and territorial integrity. If the US somehow managed to detach them, it would not dent Russian power at all. Any more ambitious attempts at balkanization will fail because as stated before, Russia is a coherent nation-state.

What about South Ossetia and Abkhazia? They haven't joined the Russian Federation.
