US hospital cut salary for frontline medical professionals

Seems odd to me...We are hearing about so many patients going to ER that is causing scarcity of bed i hospital...So what does it mean by hospital is not getting patients?

Because people are working at home there are not many car accidents, industrial accidents, heart attacks caused by strenuous work, etc.

So many ER's are sitting idle and the hospital are still paying them high salaries.

"High salaries" is relative.

A lot of people seem to be staying home.

But the main issue is elective surgical procedures are cancelled for the time being.

This is a major source of income for hospitals.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

That tweet is legit and will likely be more apparent as we go forward.

To cut the pay of frontline healthcare workers in this situation is abhorrent.

Calling them "heroes" and asking folks to volunteer on one hand and cutting pay because of economic realities on the other. (Not to mention asking people to work without adequate protection)

You know what, why not cut the pay of million dollar CEOS and others getting bailouts by the Fed before you cut a healthcare worker's pay.

I new york they are forcing private clinics and medical offices to donate ventilators. The new york govt has become a complete terrible incompetent. First they force non paying tenant on land lords not they forcing people to donate their ventilators. Wtf is wrong with NY govt.

The problem is systemic and starts from the top.

Meaning the federal "government".

It's becoming apparent how broken the US really is.

Well the alternative is to send COVID patients to private clinics and medical offices to be put on ventilators...I'm sure the clinics don't want that.

The goal is to keep these folks out of the hospital as much as possible.

Preserve PPE and reduce utilization of scare resources.

It's better to send these people to remote testing sites/clinics for testing rather than a visit to the ER and then send them home.

Yes but why donate? State could buy them. Why forcing them to donate.

Honestly the NY govt is bunch of thugs who are busy in their loot from the people especially those who are middle class and land lords and to hide their incompetence they throw the blame on federal govt.

NY is a rich state and should be helping other states right now but so much mismanagement by govt mayor and governer that they don't have funds.

I think there is severe mismanagement. City and state govt is literally looting middle class and trying to put blame on federal govt.

Look how they forced the tenants on the land lords. What can you do against a non paying tenant? Waste money in courts and lawyer and still court give them a year or 6 months living for free just because they don't have means to pay. Why don't city take such people to the shelter and compensate land lords?

Similarly, look at bridges, how much of toll they grab from people. Look at mta, does it look like a subway system of first world?

Agree.

The looting of the middle class is from all sides.

Federal, State, Local, Public AND Private.

But the reality is, there is nothing you or I or any of us can do.

I think the money issue can be sorted out later. As if the medical industry doesn't have the clout to put legislation through to get repaid above and beyond a loss.

It does seem silly having the New York governor beg the Fed Government for ventilators before even looking in his own backyard for the idle ones in private clinics first. Why hit the Fed emergency stockpile without raiding your own stockpile?

If you mean private practice offices, they don't have vents.

ICU beds and associated equipment is limited to hospitals.

@American Pakistani was the one who brought it up.

If your mta is run like our MBTA then the cheap fares compared to the cost is the problem.

my fare is basically < $2 for unlimited usage per trip. Considering more people live and work in the suburbs our subway usage keeps declining.

It is the state who have ordered the surgeons and other private parties to donate them up.

Yes cost can be sorted out later but they haven't gave any signal that they will be willing to do that.

$2 for unlimited usage is very good. In NYC 2.5$ and you get transfer only once.

My point is what new york govt is doing with middle class and small landlords who don't have multiple properties is just robbing. With no returns or rewards.

Well NYC different than Boston but similar issues exist.

Basically our MBTA is underfunded due to a few reasons
1) the automobile stealing away customers
2) White collar wealthier people living/working in the suburbs

and since the people with money are moving out this doesn't help
