American M113A2 Armoured Personnel CarriCarriers

LA:
The Philippines is receiving 114 armoured vehicles donated by the United States, officials said Thursday, boosting the poorly-equipped military's fight against various insurgent groups in the country.

Washington has provided ally Manila with military support in the past, including a warship offered last month as part of a $250-million aid package to Southeast Asian nations.

Seventy-seven M113A2 of the donated armoured personnel carriers (APCs) arrived late Wednesday and the rest will come next month, the US embassy in the Philippines said in a statement.

The donation boosts the Philippine army's inventory of armoured vehicles by over a third to 455, said spokesman Colonel Benjamin Hao.

The Philippine military still has to install armament and communication equipment on the vehicles, but Hao said they would be deployed soon.

"Our forces are now more protected and they will have more mobility because they will be in a tracked vehicle," that is more suited for rough terrain, he told AFP.

He would not specify where they would be sent, only that "they will be in areas where they are needed".

The vehicles were offered as part of a US military programme of giving away excess equipment, but the Philippines paid 67.5 million pesos ($1.4 million) to cover transport costs, officials said.

The Philippine military is among the most poorly-equipped in the region and has been battling a nationwide communist insurgency as well as various Muslim outlaw groups in the undeveloped south for decades.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino has sought to modernise the armed forces by acquiring new ships and aircraft in recent months. Aquino has proposed to parliament a 25 percent hike in defence spending next year to a record 25 billion pesos ($552 million).

Earlier this year, the military received 28 M113A2 vehicles, many refurbished with cannons and remote-controlled turrets, from Israel.

Yes, the second-hand M113A2 from U.S is so good !

Where have you been in the last 50 years?

M113 variant is a combat proven unit that in its 50 years of service life, it have seen combat in the jungle of Vietnam, desert of Israel, over the Himalaya....It was used in any and every given environment and it is still a dependable vehicle.

US have not retired all its M113 when the M2 Bradley came out in 1990s, and it has still be using TODAY as part of Armoured Cavalry Unit. You can put a 105mm gun on top of it, and it will become a mobile gun platform, you can use it for medivac, you can use it for mobile mortar truck, and you can use it for a command post.

So, yes, 114 M113 APC is actually quite good

Is US encouraging PH to start a war with China? US will benefits most if the war occurs. Of course PH will be the biggest loser.

dude, Humvee or any other ground vehicle even tanks only worth 1 or 2 well placed ATGM hits. What's your point? We should not develop any ground vehicle now that AH is such a killer now?

Do you have any idea how Cavalry War are fought? It's matter not the 1 or 2 ATGM you mention, but what you can do with your vehicle. And given the M113 is a very versatile platform, this is good for any army to have such an amount.

It's not like pew pew and shoot some missile and it's ball game.

Don't worry next batch of shipment from US will be ships and planes.

if we wanted we could :D

let's see what a $10 billion dollar aid package could get the Philippines

10x Tuo Chiang Corvette= $1 billion dollars

8x Soryu Class Submarines= $5 billion dollars

24x F-18E/F Super Hornets= $3 billion dollars including weapons package and facilities

6x P-3C Orions= $200 million

18x S-3B Vikings= $450 million
