US formally backs Japan against Russia, considers Kuril islands as Japanese land

Best outcome for China would be to have them fight each other and take a chunk of Siberia to expand into Arctic.

China needs a powerful Russia as counterweight to the US. China has no territorial claim on Russia and will safeguard Russia's territorial integrity.
Nahh Middle Kingdom needs nobody. Territorial claims are unnecessary. Russia is like a dying elephant and China is like a young tiger waiting for the elephant to die so it can eat a chunk of elephant meat.

Distance Sevastopol Vladivostok 7000+ km connected by road not passing another country. Japan is tiny compared to Russia. In the 1800s Russian ships sailed between Baltic and Pacific, Japanese ships only had a dozen km range. Japan did not colonize the new world the way Europeans such as Russians did.
Size is like one of the few major advantage Russia has against Japan, but that too can be a double edged sword since it leaves Russia with more areas to defend .Japan only needs to target specific parts of Russia which are important for their resources production, stockpile & logistical hubs.

Japan was totally different than western imperialist, even though CCP & much of Korean gov tries to label it as the same or worse over their party/national political line,Japan had no intention to colonize free nations like the west did under the facade of bringing civilization (which is now replaced with the term democracy) to the global south. Japan only had two colonies, Korea & Taiwan;one had democratically demanded Japan to take korea under Japanese rule to prevent it from falling under the yoke of soviet realm and the other was handed over by the Chinese.Japan's military goals was to prevent the west from staging an invasion of their homeland using China and korea as the pivot, while simultaneously thwarting off the western imperialist from the pacific nations one by one,for a free independent Asia .

I wish Japan wasn't shackled by their lofty ideals and was actually ruthless and expansionist like the dishonest Chinese & korean propaganda makes it to be,than not just asia but the world would have been free from western imperialism and the eastern sphere wouldn't have the situation to make up lies like Nanking bs for political points.
The realm under Japanese influence would have definitely turned out to be much better than those of evil anglos.

Why the hell would China safeguard Russia's territorial integrity when it still considers Outer Manchuria to be stolen Chinese territory? I'm sure China would be extremely happy if Japan invaded the Kuril Islands ... such a scenario basically knocks out two birds with one stone.

Actually size is a major disadvantage of Russia ... the size of the Russia was the same reason why Japan defeated the Russian Empire in 1905. Russia's far east is at present very weak and the only viable logistical route is still the Trans-Siberian line. If Japan really sought to, it could easily re conquer the Kuril Islands with its current military. Or China can probably take all of Siberia with relative ease. But why don't they though? Simple answer: Russia's nuclear arsenal. So all this talk of retaking Russian territory is just ridiculous. Unless Japan can somehow develop an ABM system that manages to shoot down all nuclear tipped ICBMs, the Kuril Islands will remain in Russian possession.

Japan can also go nuclear ,reclaim their islands. Russia wouldn't risk turning itself into a radioactive wasteland with nuclear exchange with japan over few islands. Not worth it. The world will cry for the loss of japan, but none will for the drab russia.

I don't doubt Japan's ability to go nuclear (technology wise) but I highly highly doubt they will. As long as the US guarantees their safety, there is no reason at all. Besides, a huge portion of Japanese people are against nuclear weapons for obvious reasons, not to mention the surrounding countries: China, Russia, South Korea, and most definitely the US. And I can guarantee you if Japan attempts to launch an attack on the Kurils, they will be met by a nuclear response with Russia. Japan would have no international support for this endeavor and Russia has every reason to repel the invasion how they see fit (most likely a tactical nuke because their conventional forces are too weak in the far east). And in some scenario like this, I'm sure China would happily join in and use this opportunity to attack the Senkaku/Diaoyu and Ryaku islands.

media, news and other psy-ops running against Japan to get them to back USA:

Quad

Kuril Islands

Nike advertisement

Japanese nationalist fervour against Korea, China and now Russia

potential German-Japanese drills in Western Pacific

Japanese huge military budget increase of 1.1%

5 eyes + Japan ???

etc

Japan must never forget the racists who bombed Hiroshima and want only bad things for Japan, such as being part of a Quad that is nothing more than being a slave of the Washington ambitions to destroy freedom in the world.

There better not be. China and Korea will certainly side with Russia against Japan in war considering Japan occupied China and Korea in the past and committed atrocity to Chinese and Koreans. Meanwhile, Russia beefing up its Pacific fleet to deter Japan.

No China won't back Russia in a war. That is as stupid a path as Germany's blank check to Austria-Hungary. That is exactly why I am opposed to a Moscow Beijing alliance. And it would be bad for Russia too. Washington would want to get involved in a war with China involved. There is more of a chance that it would be another Russo-Japanese War without US involvement, if China stays out. The Quad is targeting China, not Russia. US and Russia at war would be an end to the US empire. It is a gamble, if Japan and US defeat Russia, then the empire continues. Would the US wage a total war against Russia. That goes against every policy of the past 75 years. Both have nukes. Both have top notch electronic warfare capabilities. Both sides air defenses are claimed to be the best. US would have to get close to the shores of Russia, and I am not referring to Alaska/Russia region, to fight to defend Kuril. This is not a sure win for either side.

China needs good relations with Russia more than Japan (even if faux b/c of putin). However, Japan must remain in good relations with China to prevent war and conflict in the Western Pacific.

Japan will never leave it upto the US to fight their war,US serves as a cloak of deterrence nothing more . Japan's pacifist approach was due to docile geopolitics in the pacific in past few decades,if seriously provoked Japan will do what it feel necessary to protect its sovereignty, its the same japan that took on the arduous task of expanding its military presence across Asia ,to prevent the west from using Korea or china as a pivot to Japan, something unheard of in past century. Japan wouldn't provoke a war against Russia before it can ascertain that the island nation can exchange nukes from their side. But in a scenario where japan arms itself with nukes and reclaims their islands,Russia wouldn't risk the demise of their nation with nuclear exchange against japan over a few islands.Regardless,Japan is unlikely to be provoke any war on their side ,it would be Japan that most likely get provoked.

China is wearier of Russia than Japan ,China knows Russia is a ticking time bomb that has betrayed China in past manytimes , and shares a huge border, nobody knows what their political line would be after Putin reign. Meanwhile, Japan and China are part and parcel of the same eastern sphere,,they can sort stuff out .

China uses japan for political leverage with the atrocity propaganda, but invading few Japan claimed islands serves no purpose in the long run for china ,both economically or geopolitically, japan which is not just an important trade partner but a nation that would have enough nuclear arsenal,to bomb china & russia multiple times over ,both at once in case of a conflict.
Japanese separated plutonium stockpile is much larger than China's if based on officially ascertained info at least.

China would rather invade Japan than invade Russia. Japan is China enemy. Russia is China friend.

Outer Manchuria was never Chinese land. There were hardly anyone living there, so Qing dynasty ceded it to Russia. Ditto Mongolia.

If Japan invades Russia then China and Korea invade Japan. So Japan also cannot afford to put 100% of its power into invading Russia. At most 20% tops.

Argentina took Falklands from Britain pretty easily but they still lost it again. Even if Japan takes Kuril islands, they can't keep it against Russian attack. Russia would constantly pump out ships and planes and tanks in European Russia and send them east to attack Kuril islands. Japan would have horrible losses just from defending Kuril islands from Russian attacks.
