US formally backs Japan against Russia, considers Kuril islands as Japanese land

Everyone knows they still have bad blood with Russia over this ... this is why China has not significantly deepend relations with Russia in any form other than some trade relations.
Everyone here knows and can see at face value thats pure bullshit.

China bought Su-35 when no one else will. Basically China is the one keeping Russia's MIC afloat.

Kurile is indeed Japanese territory, however the Russians will never give it back as long as Japan is US's court eunuch.

And let's not forget the Kurils are much much closer to Japan than they are to the Russian heartland, where most of Russian military assets are still focused on Europe. The only way Russia can transport stuff is either along the Trans-Siberian line or an airlift, the latter of which is infeasible due to Russia's limited transport capabilities. Japan could move way more assets way faster due to their proximity.

Russia has submarine base at Kamchatka which is not far north of southern Kuril islands. About 1,400 km between Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the southern tip of Kunashir. Russians nuclear subs easily go from Saint Petersburg in the Atlantic to Kamchatka in the Pacific by crossing the Arctic. Subs are not blocked by ice at the sea surface. Yasen armed with 3,000 km range Kalibr cruise missiles can strike southern kuril islands from Kamchatka.

Why the hell would China safeguard Russia's territorial integrity when it still considers Outer Manchuria to be stolen Chinese territory?

Incorrect. Qing land north of Amur was never Manchu land. It has always been Nivkh land. Sure, it was conquered by Manchus in the 1600s but it was inhabited by Nivkh, which is an ethnic minority in Russia, not an ethnic minority in China. Outer Manchuria never existed. Manchuria is south of Amur.
