US drone strike kills three in North

MIRANSHAH:
A US drone strike targeting a
militant compound Monday killed
three militants in North Waziristan,
officials said.
The attack took place in the Boya
area of North Waziristan region of
which Miranshah is the main town.
“A US drone fired two missiles on a
militant compound, killing three
rebels,” a senior security official told
AFP on condition of anonymity.
This was the second strike in less
than 24 hours. At least three
militants were killed Sunday in a
drone attack on Dargamandi area in
North Waziristan, also known as a
strong bastion of Taliban and al
Qaeda linked militants.
Another security official confirmed
the strike and casualties but said
the identities of those killed were
not immediately known.
Boya is believed to be stronghold of
the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group and
both foreign and local militants.
Bahadur, a local warlord, is allied
with the Afghan Taliban fighting US-
led troops across the border.

PESHAWAR: A US-led drone strike in
North Waziristan tribal region's
Datta Khel area on Monday killed
two persons and injured another,
DawnNews reported.
Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affiars
condemned the US drone strike that
took place in North Waziristan today
on 30 September 2013 and said in a
statement that these unilateral
strikes were a violation of Pakistan's
sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised
the importance of bringing an
immediate end to drone strikes.
The Government of Pakistan has
consistently maintained that drone
strikes are counter-productive, entail
loss of innocent civilian lives and
have human rights and
humanitarian implications. Such
strikes also set dangerous
precedents in the inter-state
relations, the statement added
These drone strikes have a negative
impact on the mutual desire of both
countries to forge a cordial and
cooperative relationship and to
ensure peace and stability in the
region.
The drone fired two missiles at a
house situated in Mohammad Khel
village of Datta Khel tehsil in North
Waziristan tribal region.
The number of casualties was
expected to rise.
The target of the drone strike was a
suspected militant compound and
the three persons killed were alleged
militants, officials told AFP.
“A US drone fired two missiles on a

The identities of the victims could
not be ascertained till the filing of
this report as access to media and
journalists is restricted in the area.
This was the second attack in the
region in as many days.
The attacks while Prime Minister
Nawaz Sharif is visiting the United
States to attend the 68th session of
the United Nations General
Assembly during which for the first
time since 2004, when the drone
strikes began, the prime minister
raised the issue of drones inside the
UNGA, telling world leaders that the
attacks were a continued violation of
Pakistan’s territorial integrity.
