Washington: A top American General has expressed concern over the terrorist safe havens in Pakistan but said the US wil continue to work with the country.

"I am concerned about the (terrorist) sanctuary in Pakistan," said General John F Campbell, who has been nominated by President Barack Obama to be the Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

"If confirmed, I will continue to work with the Afghan military and the Pakistan military to continue to ensure that we can reduce that, but that we have the great mil-to-mil cooperation between the Afghans and the Pakistanis," he said during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday.

Campbell said there is a great opportunity for the mil-to-mil engagement between the Afghans and the Pakistanis.

"They got to continue to work that," he said.

Admiral William Gortney, Nominee for Commander of the US Northern Command (NORTHCOM), told lawmakers that it is critical to have partnership with Pakistan and also to have mil-to-mil between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Earlier, in written response to questions, Gen Campbell said?Pakistan is postured to occupy a significant role in the security situation in Afghanistan.

"Pakistan's first priority is its eastern border with India, but it also continues to be concerned over growing Indian influence in Afghanistan. Pakistan is and will continue to be a critical partner in the region," he said.

"The stability of the entire region requires cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Both nations face common threats that attack their civilian populations and threaten their long-term development," he said.

"Both nations must work together to reduce cross border militancy and resolve conflicts to enhance the security of each nation and the region as a whole. I will continue to work with both nations to support a constructive bilateral relationship to support these two allies and enhance long-term stability throughout the region," Campbell said.

"To safeguard US interests in Afghanistan, we must maintain and improve our capacity to track and disrupt threat finances originating in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and from the Persian Gulf states. Future efforts need to be focused on targeting sources of terrorist funding and providing evidence to support criminal indictments and law enforcement prosecutions," he said.

You guys remember this:

Israel/America/EU are supporting terror boys.

Let me say it again - No one wants to loose the monopoly. Economic models evolve. Change. From slave trade to colonialism it the current economic model.

What stays is technology and education. The combination of these two make you hegemonic.

EU will never ever want to loose the monopoly! The best way for the elite is to bomb the adversary every so often. It will stop once the culture changes. That might now happen. Especially on the mass scale. Because. Before that. You. Yourself. Will go. Go down. Down.

the americans can go screw themselves. im fed up with their bullsh*t. we have a massive operation going on at the moment. they've failed in afghanistan and are constantly trying to pass the buckle.

.
If Pakistan was problem then why this General didn't force International community to help them erect a wall @ Pak-Afghan border.

.
The americans know that the militants have fled into afghanistan , into their areas of influence/responsibility , these statements are meant to preempt Pakistan's demand that america or the US-installed afghan government need to move against militants that have fled from Pakistan into Afghanistan

This US General needs to move against Fazlullah or STFU

US general sees only 'good news' in Afghanistan as senators voice concerns

Afghanistan's presidential election may be taking the country to the brink, but the US army general nominated to helm the terminal phase of America's longest war sees nothing but "good news".

"Everything I see, sir, is good news, and that we're on a good road, but we just have to get through this kind of 50-meter target and get through the election, identify the president," General John "JC" Campbell, the army's vice-chief of staff, told the Senate armed services committee on Thursday.

That as yet unresolved presidential election, marred by allegations of fraud, threatens to upend the entirety of post-Taliban Afghanistan, undermining a fragile governance system built and maintained by the US over 13 years, at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars and the lives of 2,200 troops. On Monday, as supporters of trailing candidate Abdullah Abdullah protested, the Obama administration threatened to pull out all of its financial and security support for Afghanistan should leaders not reach a peaceful resolution.

"I think the fact is that if they’re not abiding by their constitution, it makes it difficult for us to continue to provide the kind of support that we have been and we would like to," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday.

Campbell, who would be returning to Afghanistan for his third tour since 2003, had high praise for the Afghan security forces that the US has cultivated, citing "great progress" by the Afghan soldiers and police and predicting they will "hold firm" during the tenuous presidential transition.

Campbell's assessment came the day after a United Nations report found that ground battles between Afghan forces and the Taliban insurgents had overtaken insurgent bombs as a leading cause of civilian deaths and injuries. Civilian casualties grew by a quarter over the past year, the UN reported.

Questioning from incredulous senators prompted Campbell to walk back his comments significantly. Despite the Afghan forces "holding strong", Campbell said that an illegitimate election would likely prompt them to "revert to what they've done for years and years and go back to a tribal affiliation".

At one point, Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican on the panel who recently returned from visiting US forces in Afghanistan, corrected Campbell on the composition of that Afghan military, gently telling the general that ethnic Tajiks, a minority in Afghanistan, are overrepresented in the officer corps.

Senators on the panel for the morning hearing sounded alarmed about the Obama administration's plans to end the war in 2017, leaving a rump US troop presence of about 1,000 based at the Kabul embassy. In light of the deterioration of Iraq in the past weeks, they extracted promises from Campbell to review the pace and scale of the administration's drawdown – a sign that Campbell's nomination is not in jeopardy – even as Campbell dismissed concerns that the Afghan military would prove as fragile in post-US Afghanistan as Iraq's did.

The panel also got a rare public appearance from the leader of the Joint Special Operations Command, army Lieutenant General Joseph Votel, nominated for elevation to run the overarching US Special Operations Command. Votel revealed that after 2014, the US will maintain 2,000 elite forces in Afghanistan, with 980 of them tasked for the residual counterterrorism mission President Obama outlined in May, a figure Votel testified was adequate.
============================================

Can you post the same news from any other neutral sources as Zee has mention PTI (Pres trust of India) as primary source, but the International Media is not quoting any such statement of Gen. John F Campbell given in the meeting of Senate armed services committee. (same meeting as mention in the article of Zee news)

So the point is your posted news article is fake or at least highlighted lines are wrongly attributed to Gen. John F. Campbell.

ISI harboring anti-Shia terrorists across Pakistan: Ahsanullah Khan
Mon Mar 4, 2013 4:27PM GMT

From day one they are creating this kind of situation as the frontline ally of the US and for other allies of the US in the war on terror. And they want to keep this fake war on terror alive by harboring and supporting this kind of element to harass the rest of the world."

An analyst says the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) funds and protects extremist terrorist groups providing a safe haven for them to kill and terrorize the Shia Muslims in Pakistan.

In the background of this at least 48 people have been killed and 150 wounded in a blast that ripped through a Shia populated area of Karachi in Pakistan. The victims were leaving a mosque after evening prayer. Human Rights Watch has said over 400 Shia Muslims were killed throughout 2012 in Pakistan in what is claimed to be targeted killings. Pakistan has been among the leading recipients of US foreign aid both historically and in recent years.

Press TV has interviewed Ahsanullah Khan, Founder for Pakistani Advocates for Civil and Human Rights, New York about this issue. The following is an approximate transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Looking at the situation in Pakistan the blasts that took place in Quetta earlier in February, we saw the arrest of Malik Ishaq the head of the Lashkar Jhangvi, which is a banned terrorist organization in Pakistan; however, it is interesting to know that this organization holds licenses to buy and operate heavy machinery.

This raises questions as to where the government’s priorities lie when they’re giving licenses to banned terrorist organizations. What do you make of that?

Khan: It’s very obvious and clear that all this has been happening for several decades and the government agencies predominately Pakistan’s army, intelligence agency. Since the... ISI then promoting supporting and harboring these terrorists organizations and they’ve been targeting several different minorities predominantly the Shia minority.

It’s been happening for several decades and it is very obvious that it can not take place without the shelter without the support and harboring of the Pakistan army who is there to protect them, who is providing them license; who is providing them not only license, but so many heavy weaponries and artilleries and all these weapons were there...

People are dying of hunger, they don’t have jobs, they don’t have a place to live; people are committing suicide because of hunger and it’s this little minority, which is being funded, supported and harbored by the Pakistan army is having the license to kill whoever they want and they are in a safe haven. They are living in Islamabad.

So far all these religious extremist groups including the Taliban and others; their leadership is never questioned, never challenged; their wasn’t any prosecution. So this is very obvious that all this is happening because of their support.

Press TV: What benefit does the Pakistani army get by supporting these terrorist organizations because right now we are seeing drone attacks taking place in north western Pakistan under the pretext of getting rid of these very elements from Pakistani soil.

So, considering how this is only allowing more instability both from outside and within the country, does the Pakistani army even benefit from this?

Khan: This what they want. From day one they are creating this kind of situation as the frontline ally of the US and for other allies of the US in the war on terror. And they want to keep this fake war on terror alive by harboring and supporting this kind of element to harass the rest of the world.

It is a US foreign policy, which is with us supporting the Pakistani army, which is their main vendor. Tax payer’s money is going to these religious terrorist organizations. That’s what one of their major objectives is, to keep eating the foreign aid, which includes the US and other allies.

That's right, PressTV. Everyone else puts it up like it's gospel.......

False flagger !!! HAHAHAHAHAHA !!! It felt good to call someone else that for a change.

Yeah, the Pakistani Army is fighting the warlords ( Warlords ? In 2014 ? Holy shit !) with one hand while ISI funds them with the other.

You're very ignorant if you believe it's as simple as that. Fact of the matter is the army's hunting these animals. Terrorist attacks have subsided and the security situation is improving. There may well be Taliban sympathisers in position of power but these people are decreasing. There are f*ked up people in all parts of the world, including yours.

Pakistan has bled for the Americans. Let's see another country sacrifice as much.

So they ARE there. I WASN'T wrong. Lets BOTH hope they are decreasing.
