The US said the Taliban were "businesslike and professional" after they allowed the first charter flight carrying foreigners, including American nationals and permanent residents, to depart the country on Thursday.
The Qatar Airways flight "has safely landed" in Doha, according to National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horne. She said it marks a "positive first step" with the group the US had been at war with for two decades.
"The Taliban have been cooperative in facilitating the departure of American citizens and lawful permanent residents on charter flights from HKIA," she said in a statement, referring to Hamid Karzai International Airport.
"We will continue these efforts to facilitate the safe and orderly travel of American citizens, lawful permanent residents, and Afghans who worked for us and wish to leave Afghanistan," added Horne.
Horne did not specify the exact number of people who were on board the flight, but reports indicated it was roughly 200.

The plane had been blocked from departing Afghanistan by the Taliban after they assumed control of the country in a military offensive that ousted the US-backed internationally-recognized government. A 300,000-strong force trained and equipped by NATO collapsed in the face of the sprawling Taliban campaign.
Thursday's flight was the first to leave Kabul since foreign countries, including the US, concluded evacuation missions that dramatically escalated after the Taliban completed their takeover on Aug. 15.
Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan, Kabul has been swarmed by people seeking a way out of the country, many of them civilians who worked with foreign forces or groups and now fear retribution.

About 6,000 American citizens and lawful permanent residents have been pulled out from Afghanistan, according to the Biden administration. The White House pegged the number of those who remain in the war-torn country at roughly 100.

Anything and everything to pursue national interests relentlessly. Applying concepts from the personal domain to international geopolitics is only for the naïve.

Wah rey Umrika teri munafiqat

American constitution dictates that no negotiation with terrorists and US exit plan was negotiated with Haqqani network

Undoubtedly but cautiously, Taliban's role since Aug. 15 has been played up by the US State Dept. To me it seems like a way to dull some criticism against the Taliban by the American media: Look, Taliban maybe whatever they are but they are also helping us evacuate our citizens. Also, to start laying the groundwork to send the humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

A) The way there is generally muted criticism by the US officials of the Taliban and vice versa, hints at something was cooked up behind the scene in Doha.

B) BUT Pakistani journalist Saleem Safi is saying that the American focus will be to counter China and for that reason things are not going to be good for Pakistan or the Taliban govt. If Safi is correct in his conclusion then very unfortunate for Pakistan and the region.

I think A and B need to be discussed in some other thread though.

Saleem Safi should be taken with a bathtub of garlic salt but as soon as the Chinese announced their intentions of getting involved the attitude has changed drastically. At the end, the long term strategic interests of the United States matters and not what was said and done 10-20 years ago - that is what I would want for my country.

The scandal was discussed in US senate and publicly in media for decades - so not really in personal domain anymore.

Everyone should be taken with a bathtub of garlic salt these days about Afghanistan! Countless people-- from 'experts' to novices like me have been proven so wrong the way Kabul fell on August 15.
Care to explain the bolded part, please?

Any bonhomie between the Taliban and the US will be short-lived. The focus is to get all US citizens out. The Taliban are concerned about optics and are acting accordingly. But soon as this is completed, all gloves are off.

Finally, regardless of what has happened in Afghanistan, the US position on China has not changed. With Afghanistan in China-Pak camp, the US wI’ll be able to focus on China more. It will also drive further Indo-US collaboration.

many of the taliban leaders were in CIA custody....

Taliban hasnt touched an american solder in 2 years.....

now there seems to be a growing bromance between the 2

something smells really really fishy here.

US left Taliban buck naked in the middle of nowhere. US is out of Afghanistan, but Taliban desperate for the release of 10 billion dollars fund from US. Soon we notice strange behavioral change in Taliban or another round of anarchy. Financially at this moment all in US control. All key allies GCC etc with money follow US. Russia is broke and China never jump in without concrete guarantee from US , not to interfere in any CPEC or trade agreement with Afghan govt.
