The third US-Bangladesh defence dialogue will be held on Apr 22 in Dhaka, days after the security talks, the foreign ministry has said
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque met Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller at the State Department in Washington on Thursday.
The foreign ministry in a media release on Friday said the Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the regular completion of the security and defence dialogue.
They also discussed global issues of mutual interests.
The third Bangladesh-US security dialogue was earlier scheduled for Apr 16.
Washington increased its military diplomacy with Dhaka in recent years for its key interest in Asia Pacific and South Asia.
Washington is ‘rebalancing’ its engagement in this region as its focus had shifted from the Middle East, its officials said.
The first-ever Bangladesh-US security dialogue was held in Dhaka in April 2012 and military-to-military dialogue was held in Hawaii in September that year.
The second military dialogue was held in Dhaka in November.
The purpose of the dialogue was to “broaden and strengthen bilateral cooperation on a wide range of military issues, and enhance partnerships in peacekeeping, joint military exercises and exchanges, counterterrorism, and security cooperation”.
