ISLAMABAD: In a major breakthrough, the US has offered Pakistan to sign prisoner swap agreement for the extradition of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi, after which the Pakistani scientist will be allowed to serve the remaining part of her imprisonment in homeland.

Talking to a private TV channel, the spokesperson of the foreign office Umar Hameed also confirmed that the US has offered Pakistan to sign prisoner swap agreement after which both countries will release each others prisoners.

According to the documents, the US told Pakistan in writing that the only legal way for the extradition of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi was to sign prisoner swap agreement with the US. The US offered two deals that include European Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Convention on Serving Criminal Sentences Abroad in this regard.

Meanwhile, it was also revealed that the Interior Ministry had formed a task force following the US offer which held its first session on July 3 to review the agreement.

The task force was established under the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the channel said.

The Pakistani neuroscientist was sentenced to 86 years in prison after she was convicted of grabbing a US soldier s M-4 assault rifle and trying to shoot a group of FBI agents and soldiers at an Afghan police compound in July 2008, a charge she consistently denied during the trial.

the Kidnap of Dr Afia was illegal so where does the ''only legal way'' comes into picture in first place?

They are going for the shakil afridi extradition.

Talk about intelligence they knew Pakistan is not going to handover Afridi to America so played this. They are aware that afia is of no use to them so y not swap her with this guy who might still have lots of information.

Its not going to happen. We will not get afia till she is required a year before election. But again, anything is possible.

Pakistan should try to get back people stranded in Guantanamo Bay. As per Musharraf's book, many were handed to the U.S in return for aid.

It is another trick, they must mention the names in Swap. another game with no results.

What kind of information, might a doctor have? They just used him thats all,

This is like returning a dead body. She is no longer in her mental or physical health to survive a normal life. This is utter shame.

its a drama to creat soft point for shakeel afridi. they want shakeel afridi back. in return of a deadbody.

I would say to accept the offer. Finally give a few good days to Dr. Aafia and as for OBL, he is dead anyways.
