I own real estate in the coastal areas. I have heard anecdotal evidence of wealthy Asians from real estate agents. It does not add to the billions you quote. I had wealthy Chinese neighbors - husband and wife are software engineers at Google.

Did you even see the Marketwatch report that said 25% of foreign real estate investment came from Chinese investors in 2018? Everyone in the real estate market should know that the Chinese clients have some of the deepest pockets and almost always use cash to purchase as opposed to taking out mortgages like most do in the US.

I don't know a single Chinese billionaire or official who made their money/office in China, then moved to the west with their money. Small fry millionaires or county level officials? Maybe, but nobody knows their names. Billionaires? Even provincial level officials? Never.

But there's proof of Chinese making their money in the west/getting skills in the west, then taking it to China and becoming billionaires: best known one is Robin Li, founder of Baidu.

In fact there was recently leak in some papers in Cyprus which showed how wealthy Chinese and Arabs are buying up citizenship for access to Europe in Cyprus(where it's easier to get citizenship). China's richest woman was exposed to be involved in getting one as well.

So it's a well known phenomenon which I think should be look at in China. I'm sure there are several more super wealthy Chinese who hold double nationality of Chinese and some western country. In fact I don't think it's a bad thing per se. As a wealthy person we should always have plan B(or several options) in case things sour for us. I think China should also amend it's law on double citizenship, I don't see why they can't allow double nationality.

What does doing this ban achieve though? Do you think it really hurts the Chinese? Meanwhile, the US stands to lose billions from lost real estate investment and consumer spending by these super rich Chinese Communist Party officials. These corrupt officials could just go to Europe, Australia, or Canada with their money.

I agree, it does nothing to help the US, instead it will affect the US . They should have adopted the opposite and instead encourage even more super wealthy(albeit corrupt) Chinese to invest, migrate and keep their cash in the US even more. This helps the US and requires no effort from the US at all. Western Countries like Switzerland for example basically enjoy massive amount of wealth and have one of the best standard of living for its people due to the massive amount of wealth they enjoy from corrupt officials /individuals from developing countries who steal money from their country to come and invest or hide in Switzerland and the Swiss are very welcoming to this actually ( i can't blame them, i will do the same. lol ). So i don't see why the US should shut off the Chinese meanwhile the US has been benefiting from all the massive cashflow coming from Chinese CPC members. Stupid move by Trump indeed. Anyway its good news for us. These people will just divert their attention to other western countries. So it's US loss and our gain.

Yes it says members of ALL communist regime/party. It didn't single out one country . Anyway, i don't see why it should be a big deal for CPC officials. Why will they and their children want US green cards/Citizenship so much?

I think the CPC has done a good job this past decade. However, it seems that with the growth of the country has come massive amount of corruption by the party as well. The CPC should be very careful, since it's all good when things are going well economically people don't have time or care about looking into all this, but if things starts going bad economically one day, then the people will start focusing more on what the officials are doing and demanding more accountability from them. This is exactly what brought down the KMT due to the rampant corruption the KMT party was suffering from which made the people turn against them as well. Seems the CPC hasn't learn much from this mistake or maybe wealth and prosperity has made them forget about this. lol Long gone are the days when they were the ones in opposition criticising the KMT for corruption, they seem to be heading that very same path.
