The strains of "Vande Mataram" by AR Rahman will fill the halls of the United Nations General Assembly on August 15 this year.
The music maestro will kick off the global splash of India's 69th anniversary celebrations appropriately at the UN, with 193 countries swinging to "Jai Ho!"
This will be the second time India showcases its soft power on a global stage this year. On June 21, the walls of the UN headquarters in New York were lit with yoga poses for World Yoga Day , a celebration set in motion when PM Narendra Modi proposed it in his first ever address to the UN in 2014.
Rahman's performance is likely to span the range of his creations from `Dil Se' to the current rage `Sarsariya' and perhaps include a unique musical rendition of Rabindra nath Tagore's `Where the mind is without fear'.
While it will touch all the buttons of a pluralistic, multicultural India, Rahman's performance will also come 50 years after another Indian music legend, MS Subbulakshmi, performed at UN.
Top Comment :: It is really an proud moment for India and as well to Maestro A R Rahman to achieve the feet at UN with the coincidence of 50 years ago done by M S Subbulakshmi and hope the UN dances to his tunes through his music !!!
