Ukraine President Tells Poles He Wants EU, NATO Membership

200 Canadian military instructors to come to Ukraine| Ukrinform
KYIV, April 15 /Ukrinform/.Canada will send about 200 military instructors for conducting exercises and increasing the defense capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said this on Tuesday, according to the press service of the Canadian government.

"Canada continues to stand with the people of Ukraine in the face of the Putin regime's ongoing aggression. The Canadian military contribution being announced today will help Ukrainian forces personnel to better defend their country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ukrainian forces personnel will benefit from the highest calibre of training from the brave men and women of our own Canadian Armed Forces. Canada will continue working with its allies to ensure a sovereign, unified and secure Ukraine," Harper said.

Training will start in summer in NATO educational center in Yavoriv (Lviv region) and will last until March 31, 2017. Training will also be held at the Defense Ministry center for mine clearance in Kamianets-Podilskiy.

Training program will include explosive ordnance disposal and improvised explosive device disposal training, military police training, medical training, flight safety training, and logistics system modernization training.

Canada will also be providing individual and unit tactics training to Ukrainian National Guard personnel along with the United States.

Thursday, April 16. LUBLIN – Headquarters of the Joint Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade hosts the planning conference of ‘Triple Bravery 2015’ exercise to be held in Poland this December. From the Ukrainian party, Maj. Andriy Kovalvsky, officer of the Ukrainian Airborne Troops, participates in it.

Taking into account the importance of formation of the Joint Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade and prospects of cooperation, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski accompanied by Minister of National Defence Tomasz Siemoniak and Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Gen. Mieczysław Gocuł visited the headquarters.

“The role of Poland is to ensure the western world will leave the door open to political and security structures, European Union, as well as NATO, if Ukraine wants,” President Bronislaw Komorowski stressed.

Monday, April 20. KYIV — Ukrainian General Staff hosted the Lithuanian military delegation. Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Maj. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Žukas, Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, spoke about bilateral defence cooperation. Particularly, they discussed coordination issues and Ukraine’s support on the eve of meetings of EU-Ukraine Military Committee and NATO-Ukraine Military Committee and establishment of the joint LitPolUkrbrig. Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko thanked the Lithuanian Government and the Lithuanian people for their assistance.

“During combat operations in east of Ukraine, we’ve gained invaluable experience how to oppose the aggression and are ready to share it with partners,” Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko stressed. He also spoke about the ongoing situation in east of Ukraine.

Ukrainian party presented its plans regarding a mid-term development of the Ukrainian army.

Maj. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Žukas underlined the readiness of his state to assist in treatment of the wounded in action.

When attending the NATO Week opening event at the National University of Defence of Ukraine Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas underlined that the Russian war in Ukraine had become an alarm signal for the whole of Europe and NATO.

“One of the most important Ukraine lessons for Europe and the entire NATO is that European security and future are not achievable without a secure and prosperous Europe, therefore security and defence cooperation between NATO and Ukraine must be deepened,” J.Olekas said in the opening event.

The Minister pointed out the necessity for Ukraine to reform its security and defence sector as it aims at developing efficient armed forces as an important lesson to learn.

Maple Arch 2015 planning undergoes in Vilnius | Міністерство оборони України
Wednesday, April 22. VILNIUS, LITHUANIA – The capital of Lithuania hosts the Maple Arch 2015 main planning conference. Canadian, Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian servicemen have been discussing the key issues of this exercise for a week.

The Ukrainian delegation led by Lt. Col. Anatoliy Ichensky is represented by servicemen of Ukrainian Land Forces Command, Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi Land Forces Academy and Detached Airborne Brigade.

Conference participants will reach an agreement on all the details of the Maple Arch 2015 based on the approved concept. They will define tasks, exercise scenario, organic structure, and a list of logistic requirements, elaborate and prepare for approval a package of legal documents regulating this exercise.

“Thanks to the Maple Arch, we have opportunity to train our soldiers according to the best world standards. Moreover, this exercise is essential in terms of establishment of the multinational brigade joining Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian military units,” Lt. Col. Anatoliy Ichensky underlined.

The exercise organizers will devote their main efforts to training of battalion leaders and officers. They will pay a particular attention to such topics as armed conflicts, counter-propaganda methods, CIMIC, etc. The Ukrainian and Canadian specialists experienced in the peacekeeping and stabilization operations will play the key role.

Taking into consideration the high level and practical value of this exercise, the parties decided to invite Land Forces Academy officers to participate in upcoming event. Academy will analyse, generalize and implement their practical experience in the training process of future officers.

The final agreements will be reached during the final planning conference to be held in summer. The exercise will take place this autumn in Lithuania.

Tuesday, May 12. LVIV — On the occasion of the departure of the military delegation to French Lourdes for participation in the 57th International Military Pilgrimage, servicemen took part in the joint prayer in the Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church (Lviv).

Then, servicemen from different cities of Ukraine left for holy place by bus. The Ukrainian delegation financially supported by Charitable Catholic Organization ‘Kirche in Not’ includes cadets of Land Forces Academy and Ukrainian soldiers wounded in action in the east of Ukraine.

While traveling in European countries and accomplishing their mission, Ukrainian soldiers will pray for peace in Ukraine and the whole world. Representatives of over 40 countries will participate in this pilgrimage.

Ukraine can count on NATO - Stoltenberg| Ukrinform
KYIV, May 13 /Ukrinform/. The Ukrainian government is promoting the process of necessary reforms, and in this respect it can count on NATO's support.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this at a meeting of NATO-Ukraine Commission in Antalya, Turkey, on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Today, we will assess the situation in eastern Ukraine and in Crimea. Despite these challenges, the government of Ukraine has moved forward with a demanding reform agenda. Successful reforms will be crucial for stability and progress in Ukraine," Stoltenberg said.

According to him, the Allies are strengthening their support to Ukraine's reform process through advisory assistance and trust funds.

"Ukraine can count on NATO's continued support," assured Stoltenberg.

Thursday, May 14. VINNYTSYA – On May 13, the Vinnytsya Officers’ House of the Ukrainian Air Force hosted the working meeting of representatives of the Ukrainian AF Command and the delegation of Bulgarian AF Command led by Chief of Staff, Bulgarian AF, Col. Lyubomyr Kurtev.

This meeting is aimed at developing the military cooperation to enhance troops (forces) training; organize joint exercise, trainings, etc.

Lt. Gen. Serhiy Drozdov, First Deputy AF Commander, chaired the Ukrainian delegation.

Yesterday, the Ukrainian party gave a briefing on Ukrainian air defence units and made some proposals regarding training of these units at Bulgarian ranges.

Today, the parties will discuss the aspects of joint exercises and trainings.

The visit will last till May 15.

Friday, May 22. KYIV — On May 21, Ivan Chernyakhivsky National Defence University of Ukraine hosted a meeting of Deputy Chief of University Col. Serhiy Salkutsan and Chief of National Defence University of Poland Col. Prof. Dariusz Kozerawski. The parties discussed the issues of development of educational and scientific cooperation between educational establishments.

According to Col. Prof. Dariusz Kozerawski, their visit is aimed at developing didactic and theoretical cooperation. The universities exchange by students, academic staff, and various specialists.

Sixteen representatives of the Ukrainian University are taking the NATO Military Terminology and Standards courses in the National Defence Academy in Warsaw.

“Our cooperation is organized within the NATO Defence Education Enhancement Program (DEEP). The mentality of Polish service members is close to ours. It fosters to understand as soon as possible the previously Poland-implemented approaches, particularly, the procedures of NATO implementation procedures,” Deputy Chief of University Col. Serhiy Salkutsan stressed.

The parties defined the prospects of their cooperation. Primarily, they will pay much attention to educational activities.

Scientific activities are also a key direction of cooperation such as joint scientific workshops, conferences, forums, and joint publications of scientists in specific publications of both countries.

In 2016, the parties plan to participate in the International Week in Poland; the Ukrainian Defence University has previously organized this event for 15 times.

The parties discussed the prospects of improvement of imitative modelling as both educational establishments have centres of imitation modelling which are the best in Europe.

Thursday, May 21. BELGIUM – The delegation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces led by Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko, Chief of General Staff, visited the Allied Command Operations (ACO) in Mons, Belgium.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation held a series of working meetings with ACO high officials, learnt command tasks and procedures and discussed the actual issues of interaction and practical cooperation.

Now now you cant even do a quick web search and see for yourself what EU (the same EU you love so so much) is saying about Ukraine/Georgia/Moldova membership.Well of course I`m not surprised - "watching" Romanian anti-fracking protesters is so so hard and time-consuming.It is OK np.Sooner or later even you will get it.

NATO’s Assistant Secretary General: We see a progress in Ukraine’s MoD reforms | Міністерство оборони України
Tuesday, May 26. KYIV – On the eve of the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group for military reforms, Col. Gen. Stepan Poltorak, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, held constructive talks with Ambassador Thrasyvoulos Terry Stamatopoulos, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy.

The parties defined joints plans on further cooperation.

“We see a progress in Ukraine’s MoD reforms and realize, we need to cooperate,” Ambassador Thrasyvoulos Terry Stamatopoulos stressed.

Col. Gen. Stepan Poltorak thanked Assistant Secretary General for support provided by the Alliance nations.

According to Defence Minister, the ongoing situation in the east of Ukraine proves Russia still supports separatism. This policy threatens security of Ukraine and European countries. In this context, head of defence ministry spoke about consolidation of joint efforts aimed at supporting the security reforms.

Col. Gen. Stepan Poltorak announced the important achievement of the MoD along with volunteer organizations, such as implementation of the Board of Reforms at the Ukrainian MoD.

“The goal of this Board is to implement economic, logistic, technical and medical reforms, establishment of efficient mechanism of involvement of public activists and representatives of international organizations in reforms,” Minister underlined.

The parties spoke about NATO-Ukraine cooperation as a key element of national security of Ukraine and defence reforms. As Minister of Defence noted, Ukraine put high hopes on the NATO-Ukraine Commission Meeting to be held on June 25.
