It has been 500 days since Ukraine has refused to purchase natural gas from Russian energy monopoly Gazprom, as reported by the press service of Ukrtransgaz, the state-owned operator of the gas transportation system.

"We’ve not been importing gas from Russia for 500 days," the report says. It is also noted that on April 8, 15.7 million cubic meters of gas was imported from other directions: 9.9 mcm from Slovakia, 3.3 mcm from Hungary, and another 2.4 mcm from Poland.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in late November 2015 refused to purchase natural gas from Gazprom. In general, in 2015 the country doubled gas imports from Europe against 2014, up to 10.3 billion cubic meters, at the same time reducing by 2.3 times the purchase of hydrocarbons from the Russian Federation.

In 2016, Ukraine imported 11.1 bcm of gas from the EU alone; in particular, 9.1 bcm from Slovakia, 1 bcm from Hungary, and another 1 bcm from Poland.
