Ukraine and Turkey consider cooperation in developing Turkish missile defence system, source says
19-06-2013 12:34Ukraine and Turkey are considering future cooperation 1-in developing a Turkish missile defence system, according to a source with the State Space Agency.
Ukraine's possible participation in the Turkish missile project was discussed in Istanbul by Space Agency head Yuriy Alekseyev, Ukroboronprom Director General Serhiy Gromov, and Turkish Defence Ministry's Advisor Murad Bayar. "They discussed, in particular, the 2-creation in Turkey of a joint space centre and a 3-testing ground for air defence systems, and 4-supplies of Ukrainian engines for armoured vehicles produced in Turkey. They outlined priority projects, drew up their implementation schedules, and reached agreement on a number of disputable issues," the source told Radio Ukraine on Wednesday. In early 2012, Turkey announced plans to reinforce its missile defence because of concerns about the latest outbreak of regional conflicts. Last summer, Ankara was reported to be considering cooperation with an east-European country in building medium-range ballistic missiles. According to open sources, Turkey is planning to build a ballistic missile system with a range of 23 hundred kilometres.
