What's new

UK to start new drone program following example of Turkey’s Bayraktar: Guardian

China, Russia, Egypt, UAE, KSA, Israel, France, Greece, Cyprus, all the Arab countries except Qatar are against GNA and Turkey. Talk about isolation on the international stage.

Not all Arab countries?

Tunisa, Algeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Italy, etc etc I can go on!!! NOT AGAINST IT

Your ill informed about Armenia's capabilities they were heavily armed and to the teeth. They had the best possible and modern defense systems, manpads and everything don't compare them to none-state actors. They had success bringing down the Israeli Harop drones and occasionally with TB2 and but not TB2s.

The best possible defense system couldn't stop them while in return chinese defense systems are not upto par with the defense systems Armenia had and I know this will make you patriot and refute it but it is true and it doesn't mean just because you are a big country you have the better defensive systems you gotta be pragmatic here
The Azeris had the bigger army, the better equipment, a bigger budget, and air superiority.

It was a one sided fight, the drones just made things much easier for the Azeri forces.

If Armenia was able to successfully contest the air, and make drones unusable, the Azeris would still have won, it just would have taken longer.

Yet Azeris never dared touch a single inch of Armenia. Gee, I wonder why? :thank_you2:

Turkey has reinvented the entire modern age military doctrine

they were the first masters of gunpowder

half the European castles would give testimony to that

you obviously need a Geography lesson and learnt very little while at school

Modern age? Just happened to be Armenian armed forces are poorly equipped and ill prepared.
Just like how ISIS are helpless against Iraqi government drone.

I honestly don't think that's right.

Aside from the fact that Armenians deeply entrenched themselves over the almost 30 years of occupation they also had a plethora of sophisticated/modern air defence systems.

Why a lot of people are now blaming Armenia on its lack of preparedness, etc... is because of how this war played out. Everyone is automatically assuming that they were ill prepared when it's the opposite, I think Turkey is just that good and it wasn't even them fighting.

Yeah, Armenia may not have had the latest S-400 but what they did have, that included the modern S-300, should have easily been able to take down the Azeri's minuscule drone fleet.

So why weren't they able to?

Remember this wasn't just in Armenia they've done this earlier in Libya and Syria against the Syrian army.

My personal view is that the way that Azeri operated Turkish drones decimated the Armenian army, and how quickly they did it, has caused a lot of concern in Western circles because you can't be scrambling fighter jets 24/7 to deal with them and it increasingly appears air defence systems may not work the way they're intended either.

Would this work against larger, better armed/trained armies? No, I don't think Turkey or anyone else ever claimed that to be the case.

However, are drones becoming an increasingly important part of a modern military arsenal? Yes.

Turkey has likely mastered drone swarm tech and the art of drone warfare at least as far as you can in current times and they'll only get better at it. Turkey is developing a fleet of new drones as well as upgrades to existing ones which will only make them more lethal.

The S-300 is not built to hit a bunch of drones or low flying objects. In theory you can use a bunch of light choppers flying at tree top heights to take out a S-300 launcher. You fight drones by hitting the bases that launch or control the drones. You disrupt the communication links to the drones. Armenian military is equipped with Russian hardware. The Russians are not good at electronic warfare.

Having said that I can see a swarm of drones overwhelming large armies sometime in the future. We are not there yet

I don't what u r smoking... Seriously. Armenia is basically outgunned, out logistics and out manpower by bigger, richer, Azerbaijan. UAV just played a small part in Azerbaijan victory over Armenia.

In stage of war, downing TB2 drone is not some difficult task but Azerbaijan artillery , rocket and tanks were causing more problem than these nuisance drone.

As I said in my previous comment Armenia has downed TB2 occasionally and Harop frequently but not TB2s they couldn't nor can the Russian systems Armenia is equipped with what Russia has of the best defense systems they even admitted to this but they couldn't bring down TB2s coming from the horses own mouth which is why I say Armenia has better defensive systems then China which only proves my case. I was being pragmatic and as someone who was following the Nagorno-Karabakh war closely and it is not just purely based on size difference between Armenia or China but it comes down to accessibility to gain these defense systems for countries like Armenia which they do have and comes down to allies and defense treaties

LOL.. Who claimed that? U only..

Armenia is pro American. It a joke they will go for Chinese weapon. If they are no so nationalist and suXk up to American. They would long have CH-4B UAV from China to compete with Azerbaijan. But chances Armenia will still loses the war. Their nation strength is no match for bigger Azerbaijan who has more weapon and manpower. The war of attrition is on Azerbaijan side.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying Wing Long 2 is average and in fact it is a good drone but it couldn't change the realities on the ground for Haftar and UAE while the terrain was suitable for drone wars. Haftar and UAE could bring down TB2 occasionally but not TB2s while Wing Loong 2 was brought down frequently. Haftar had more manpower but his troops got completely depleted out in the open terrain hence why he lost the air superiority in the drone wars
