United Kingdom High Commissioner to Dhaka Robert Dickson said the Eurofighter is a good investment to protect the country's sovereignty. again, modern technology ships like offshore Trovas are effective vessels for the protection and extraction of Bangladesh's marine resources in the bay of Bengal. the UK is keen to supply these weapons of modern technology if Bangladesh wants.

Robert Dixon made the remarks on Tuesday when asked by prothom alo about the sale of weapons at the first defence dialogue between Bangladesh and the UK.

The first defence dialogue between the two countries will be held in the capital on Wednesday. he said that the purchase of weapons is one of the three issues that will be important in the high-level talks between the two countries.

Yesterday afternoon, the UK high commissioner, in a conversation with Prothom Alo at his residence, said regional and international security, defence capabilities and weapons purchases will be discussed in the dialogue.

Asked if Afghanistan and Ukraine would be the issue of regional security, Robert Dixon said, "Afghanistan, considering the regional context, what is happening in Myanmar has made us deeply concerned. so there has been a lot of instability in the region. naturally, senior officials from the UK and Bangladesh will discuss the Russia-Ukraine crisis. because it has had an impact not only on Europe, but the whole world. ’

Robert Dickson said there has been a lot of curiosity surrounding the Indian and pacific oceans in recent times. various countries have adopted their strategy on IPS. Last year, the UK's integrated IPS was released. given the world's widespread interest around the region, two friendly countries such as the UK and Bangladesh will have the opportunity to discuss it.

There is a competition between the UK, France and other European countries on the sale of fighter jets in Bangladesh. when asked if the issue will come up for discussion in this year's defence dialogue between Bangladesh and the UK, Robert Dickson said, "the issue of arms purchase will come up for discussion. however, I don't want to comment on anything specifically. ’

Asked about the UK's interest in selling modern weapons to Bangladesh, Robert Dixon said Bangladesh has to decide what Bangladesh needs. after the Russian invasion of Ukraine last week, it has once again proved how important the defence forces are in protecting the country's sovereignty.

Robert Dixon said: "we can unequivocally say that Eurofighter is a very good investment in protecting the sovereignty of the country. the same claim can be made for offshore trovas ships. ’

The UK high commissioner said that after the settlement of the maritime boundary disputes of Bangladesh, the protection of marine resources in the bay of Bengal and the development of the Sunil economy is very important. therefore, ships such as offshore Trovas can play a very effective role in the protection and extraction of Bangladesh's marine resources. the main thing, however, is that the UK is not pushing Bangladesh to buy them. If Bangladesh is interested in buying them, the UK is willing to supply it happily.

According to diplomatic sources, the defence dialogue will be held at the level of director general of defence of the two countries. the meeting will discuss advancing defence cooperation in various fields.

Very forward-looking news.

However, I am worried about our Namrudi Begum. She may demand a strong apology from the UK for defeating the 35,000 Bengal Army troops on 23 June of 1757, (excluding the troops with Mir Zafar Ali Khan and general Lutf Yar Khan), with only 2,700 East India Company troops.

Namrudi Begum is asking Pakistan to apologize. So, she will certainly demand apologies from the UK for humiliating the Bengal troops.

There were only 5000 troops that participated at the war for Shiraz not 35000 and Mir Jafar withdrawn 45000 troops from the battle field.

The main reason of the defeat was not covering the ammunition during rain which damaged it. French troops were in charge of it but they screwed it where as British protected their ammunition during rain.

This is not the first time you have distorted historical accounts at ease. It is a very good symptom of a BAL Chetona idiot. You guys claim that there was NO EAST PAKISTAN AWAMI LEAGUE. it is always BAL League!!

What a crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Learn from the history and talk. And read many historical books to counter what I state sometimes. Now, tell me which Chetona history wrote what you have stated.

By the way, have you ever heard of the Battle of Buxar?? Do not please get shocked while reading about it.

Bangladesh and the UK are holding their first ever defence dialogue from Wednesday in Dhaka. British High Commission Robert Dickson talks to Prothom Alo about the issues likely to be discussed

Which issues will feature in the defence dialogue between Bangladesh and the UK?

I'm very pleased that the first ever defence dialogue will take place on 2 March in Dhaka which we hoped to take place last year. Since travel was not possible because of Covid-19, it was delayed. It is designed to discuss three things. Firstly, there is an opportunity to share views about regional security and about international security obviously as it is a very live issue at the moment it is an opportunity to discuss the issue.

Secondly, it is an opportunity to talk about capability. We've a long standing relationship with the Bangladesh Armed Forces. We have provided a lot of training. Our armed forces work together particularly in the UN peacekeeping and we have a common interest of learning from each other about working together for enhancing military capacity.

And the third thing is that we have a very good relationship with Bangladesh in terms of selling military equipment. Earlier, Bangladesh naval equipment was largely procured from the Royal Navy in the UK. Recently we've sold military transport aircraft C-130 to Bangladesh of which the forth one arrived this week. So we will look to friends of Bangladesh Armed Forces whether we can do more because they told us they are keen to buy better quality arms in the future. Obviously we would be happy if we could help Bangladesh.

Since international security is one of the key elements of discussion, will the current situation of Afghanistan feature in the meeting? What role do you want to see from Bangladesh on this issue?

Obviously Afghanistan is part of it. But from the wider regional security issue, we are seriously concerned about what is happening in Myanmar. There is a wider range of instability in the region and I suppose if you look at the international scene, at the instability caused by what Russia has done, it has immediate effect in Europe and it has a global impact.

There is a lot of interest in the Indo-Pacific Region. Different countries put forward their strategies. We have our own integrated review that was published last year which has an Indo-Pacific dimension. This is a part of the world where there is a lot of interest and it is a good opportunity as friends to sit down and look at how that affects us. There will be quite a wide range of issues to be discussed.

We know that there is a competition among the European nations to sell sophisticated jets to Bangladesh Air Force. Will the issue come up in the discussions?

Yes, we will be talking about equipment issues. But I don't want to get into the precise details.
So you are interested in selling sophisticated military equipment to Bangladesh Armed Forces?

It is for Bangladesh to decide what it needs. If Bangladesh decides this is the capability it needs, it is worth saying that I think the tragedy of the last week reminded everybody that defence forces are very important to preserving sovereignty and we would certainly argue that Eurofighter will be a very good investment for preserving sovereignty. And the same thing would apply to Offshore Trovas ships.

As Bangladesh has demarcated its economic area in the Bay of Bengal and the ability to protect those maritime resources and develop the blue economy is very important. These ships could be extremely useful in delivering effective economic solutions and to enable Bangladesh to protect and exploit economic resources in the Bay of Bengal. The point is we are not thrusting these things at Bangladesh. If Bangladesh Armed Forces decide that they need particular capabilities, we are happy to make those capabilities available for Bangladesh.

.
Off course they are keen to sell weapons, If you don't need weapons because you do not have enemies...well that can be arranged too

i dont have problem if BAF buy100 EFT

the problem is the after sale they can blackmail's

Read "Riaz us Salatin" written by Golam Hossain Salim only a few years after the Battle of Plassey. It is the most authentic book and all accounts of that war must refer to this book mainly.

But you are telling me about wiki. Since when wiki is a genuine source of history? Wiki can be re-written, changed or revised by anyone including a bigot uneducated person like you.

Nawab had 40,000 troops on his side. And Mir Zafar had 15,000 troops including the troops of Lutf Yar Khan.

And you even don't know who was Lutf Yar Khan. He was the person who was recommended by the five conspirators including Jagat Seth. But Clive vetoed it and named Mir Zafar to be the new Nawab.

Nawab put 15,000 troops behind his forces to balance Mir Zafar. And still he had 25,000 troops on his side against some 2,700 troops of East India Company.

Read history written by the historians and talk big.

Good info...

Yeah Gunpowder and rain don't mix....

Now back to UK weapons and hopefully, EFT....

The month of June is a month of rainy season and our forefathers did not foresee it and carried sheets to the battlefield to cover the ammunition.

So, was the East India Company responsible for our shortcoming? Company troops carried the necessary sheets. Company ammunition remained dry and ours became wet.

By the way, if you, @Black_cats, wiki, and all the 170 million people together say that the Nawab had only 5,000 troops in the battlefield, it will not change the history of truth. Nawab had 35,000 troops, and he kept another 15,000 troops to check Mir Zafar. This is what Riyaz Historian wrote in around 1760s.

Better, we learn from history and do not make similar mistakes in the future.
