The United Arab Emirates is preparing to become the first Islamic nation to launch a mission to Mars.

In 2020, an unmanned craft called Hope will take off from Japan and travel to the red planet.

Last year, religious leaders in the UAE issued a fatwa forbidding Muslims from landing on Mars.

However, the robotic spaceship will not actually touch down on the Martian surface.

It will blast off aboard a Japanese rocket and then go into orbit around the planet.

“We are delighted to launch the UAE’s Mars explorer by the Japanese launch vehicle H-IIA from Tanegashima Space Center in Japan in 2020,” said Yuichi Yamaura, vice president of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

“We are confident that we will accomplish our responsibility, together with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.”

The UAE first created its space agency in 2014 with the express aim of becoming the first Arab nation to launch a Mars mission.

In the same year, the nation’s General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment issued a fatwa forbidding Muslims from journeying to the red planet because they would effectively be committing suicide.

“Such a one-way journey poses a real risk to life, and that can never be justified in Islam,” the religious organization wrote.

“There is a possibility that an individual who travels to planet Mars may not be able to remain alive there, and is more vulnerable to death.”

The religious edict was issued in response to an announcement from Mars One, which wants to send astronauts on a one-way trip to Mars.

“The Muslim world has a rich tradition of exploration,” Mars One said in a long post on its website.

It then quoted a Koranic verse and added: “The verse from the Quran above encourages Muslims to go out and see the signs of God’s creation in the ‘heavens and the earth.'”

“The most influential example of this was the Moroccan Muslim traveler Ibn Battuta, who from 1325 to 1355 traveled 73,000 miles, visiting the equivalent of 44 modern countries.”

This is getting crazier by the day.

If US missions werent Christian, Indian one not Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/ Christian/Jain/ Zorastrian , why is NY Post ' branding' a scientific activity giving it religious overtones !!

Islamic mission ?
So what india and usa probe to mars be called hindu and christian missions ?

Agree

.
that is why they are sending Japanese

First Ever Islamic Mission: the question arises, will this mission be doing any tableeghi work
:enjoy::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Sensationalism and bias.

First will be able to build and launch a satellite into space
after that talk about mars

Vast majority of Muslim countries already have done this.

Islamic mission? Well results will be out soon, earth is flat, earth spins around moon...etc
A country is trying to step into space age technically but mentally seems to be out rightly backward.

@waz @Zaki Ban

They will always be in the shadows of the first ever atheist mission to mars and Christian mission to mars.

I'm not sure why Muslims and none Muslims slap "Muslim" in front of any achievements of predominantly Muslim countries. It would be like saying the J-20 is a the first Buddhist stealth aircraft , the pak-fa is a Christian stealth aircraft.

?? Why would they be in the shadows?

It justs a thing we do, so what?

.
Dawah for the Martians. I just hope they don't come across these guys.

.
Joke of the century when the entire technology in this mission will be an invention of kuffars..

They may as well call this mission TJ-X
TJ meaning Tableeghi Jamaat!

.
Great initiative by UAE, hopefully this will trigger more Middle-eastern nations to start working on space missions, more the merrier.

. . .

Pakistan operated 5 satellites to date.

PakSat-1 : Built by Hughes Space & Communications Company of US in 1993 for the Indonesian space agency. Indonesia transferred control of the satellite to SUPARCO of Pakistan. Was originally launched by a US Atlas-2AS rocket.

PakSat-1R : Built by China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), based on their DFH-4 satellite bus design. Launched by a Chinese CZ-3B rocket.

Badr-A : Built by SUPARCO, but launched by a Chinese CZ-2E rocket. Contact lost after a month of operation due to an electrical failure.

Badr-B : Developed mostly by British space & scientific institutes. Launched by a Russian Zenit-2 rocket.

ICube-1 : Developed by IST Pakistan, but launched by a Russian Dnepr rocket. Was placed in orbit but no signals received. Mission failed.

Total 5 sats, 3 built mostly/entirely by foreign companies, both of the 2 sats that were mostly indigenous have been failures.

ON TOPIC: I highly doubt this satellite will be made in UAE, or better still if it will even have a single UAE-born person working on it. Only the money will come from Emirates, the expertise will be international.

that is why they are sending Japanese

I would say this is actually a bigger achievement for Japan than UAE. Because Japanese had previously tried & failed to send orbiters to Mars.

Why is it termed an "Islamic bomb" when a muslim majority nation seeks to acquire nuclear weapons by Western media?

The Pakistans sometimes refer to the chief scientist of Pakistan's first nuclear weapon as The Godfather of the Islamic bomb.

Liberals take things too serious and look foolish when they try to play the hero.

What is ISLAMIC mission in it . secondly If UAE them self create and launch the spaceship towards space would have more encouraging then someone else doing for them .

.
no problem to pay other country to do that for you and take all the credit

.
:sarcastic:
Just one question. With what?
Don't forget to take some sandwitches with yourself, and wear some hot jackets, it's cold out there in the space.
Good luck brothers, wish the bests for you. :victory1:
