UAE, India and the Rafale issue
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is said to have not brought up the Rafale issue with any Indian official during his three-day visit to New Delhi last month to attend the celebrations of the India’s Republic Day at the invitation of Indian PM Narendra Modi. The following 401-word report sheds more light on Sheikh Mohammad’s reaction to allegations about the possibility of the Indians mediating between the UAE and France on the issue.

Rafale wasn't on the agenda at all. That's something for UAE and France to decide. India will not be involved at the leadership level, but at the company level. But we will obviously brag about it.

What's the issue here, can you elaborate?

We are looking at joint-production of aircraft,” Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Amar Sinha told journalists during a press conference on Tuesday.

India and UAE are also likely to discuss the production of a portion of Rafale in India.

“For example, as in the case of Rafale, which we are buying and UAE is also using (the Rafale), there is some interest. This is something that we can do together in terms of portion of the Rafale that would be built in India. Those are the areas that we are identifying and will work together,” Amar Sinha added.

Indians dreaming as usual.

For good reason.

Here's an example.

Lockheed Martin describes to Business Standard an attractive offer that would make India the F-16 global hub, galvanising aerospace component fabrication in the country.

We might end up selling UAE spares for the F-16s also, if it goes ahead.

Or this:

Reliance Infrastructure Ltd-controlled Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd has signed an agreement with US navy for maintenance of vessels of its largest forward-deployed Seventh Fleet, whose areas of responsibility include Western Pacific and Indian Ocean regions, reports The Times of India.

Once everything is said and done, DRAL will be a global hub for spares supply for Rafales. All Rafale support for international customers will come from India. French companies and French supply chain will cater to only French orders because French subcontractors want to focus on their more profitable Falcon line.

The Rafale production line in India will also be bigger than the one in France, among the reasons why they haven't blindly increased production to 3/month or higher at Merignac. A 2/month line can be easily rolled back to 1/month after the Indian line comes online.

The reason is simple: More profits since it is cheaper to make stuff in India.

According to a senior Reliance executive, the company has been working for past many months to develop a supply chain, and has spoken to a large number of potential vendors. The company hopes to create an aerospace ecosystem so that any future requirement of building a Rafale fighter can be made in India.

To be called Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd, Reliance Aerostructure will have 51% shareholding in the JV, while Dassault will hold the remaining 49%

No not good reason, all these reports are as usual twisted to show a picture that is not there. Typical Indian media hype.

What you are quoting, is offsets for India.

Now that after all the chest thumping and BS, India has bought the Rafales - will the Egyptian, or Qatari Rafales be built in India? No. So take your BS and sell it else where.

That's quite presumptuous of you. The news isn't just about offsets, notice it talks about producing Rafales also. And it's from Reliance itself, not a journo. Actual information will be leaked out slowly by official sources, don't worry, it will all come to light in time.

Egyptian and Qatari Rafales are done deals based on costs from the Merignac line. Similarly, the Indian deal is also from France. But potential future deals are not. UAE's Rafales will also come from France, but all these jets will be supported from India. We are not worried about selling the Rafales themselves, in fact, we are more interested in the more profitable support contracts. Rafale will still see many more export sales once the IAF orders in the hundreds.

Reliance is investing $1B into a park that will cater to a bit of offsets? And it's just an initial investment. You should put your thinking cap on.

The UAE Rafales will not be supported from india. That is just wishful thinking and typical bharati media BS.

To sell 36 Rafales FRANCE is going to close its production lines, and parts business and move it to bharat. Yeah right! That makes absolute sense!

Hey @Taygibay My condolences to you and your countrymen.
