What's new

UAE announces compulsory military service for males.

Good choice. Every single person should be allowed to learn. My all time wish since years that our country implement the same.

Correct me if I am wrong but do Pakistan lack conscripts? That's not my impression. You have a huge population (200 million) to pick from. It's much less in UAE or KSA.

Or do you want compulsory military service for the same reasons that I want it? Such as more discipline, social and personal development, combating obesity, having a trained population etc.?

Personally I believe that it would be a good step if females in KSA were involved too if they ever make such a law just like in other GCC states.

1400 years ago Arab women were on the battlefield too when necessary so no excuse not to have them here 1400 years after.;)

@al-Hasani Pakistan does not have a conscripted army. Theres no need to as the volunteers far outweigh the demand for soldiers.

Precisely what I imagined. Are there any musings about announcing compulsory military service or is that too big a project in a country with 200 million people?

TConscription means that EVERY male will get to serve. Are you sure you can control the muhajirs, balochi's.
I can safely say that almost all Punjabi males will create no problem.Punjabi's make better soldiers as compared to baloch, sindhi's and muhajirs.Of the 10 Nishan e Haider's.8 have gone to Punjabi's

Nope not heard about any plans to introduce any kind of conscription. The army has been encouraging recruitment in certain parts of the country which have traditionally provided less soldiers such as Sindh and Balochistan. However conscription is off the cards as far as I know.

Thank you for your answer. Is that due to them composing a little portion of the Pakistani population or due to the Baluch independence struggle which most Baluch do not support anyway? What is the reason for Sindh? Does Karachi not lie in Sindh? I have always heard that Pakistan's military is dominated by Punjabis (biggest ethnic group) and the Pashtuns who are the second biggest ethnic group if I am not wrong. So not that strange.

Anyway regarding this conscription talk then I think that smaller states with a lesser population and a lesser number of potential conscripts to choose from would have more success with compulsory military service.

If you don't lack conscripts then there should not be any problems. You can always mobilize in case of war which is unlikely.

Some years ago all of students were given compulsory military service and they were involved in volunteer works such as guarding places in Ramadan, Guarding protests etc, but due to a lot of suicide attacks it was finished as they were only trained to provide medics and help to people. I myself studied in a school in my childhood, where our all exercises were military based but then all was finished.

It is a very good option to train every male n female as in any possible attack, whole nation will become 1 army. Which is very beneficial for a country.

We have a Standing Army - all of our soldiers are professional, career soldiers.
Conscription is for nations that can't build a standing army, or are in a process of building one.

What about Turkey ?

Dominance of Punjabis and Pashtuns in the army was a legacy of the colonial era as the British considered these two ethnic groups to be "martial" (i.e. more suitable for fighting). Nonsense of course which is why now the army is trying to make the armed forces as representative of the general Pakistani populace as possible.

With regards to the reserves Pakistani Army already has around half a million reserves ready to fight so conscription is not needed unless the situation is really out of hand.

Kuwait also announced compulsory military service days ago. Not surprising news to me, the region is boiling.
ISIS is coming....after the GCC"s asses...Time to pick up a gun or the AE card...to Cairo!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did not the British Army also take advantage of the Gurkha martial capability ? As well as the Assam Rifles ?
