Looks like a cross between the Leopard II and M1A1. Good speed and long bore is evident. And that's perfect tank country on display :)

can it survive this?

heh, JK no tank can survive that, but at least the turret won't fly off like the ruskkies

I don't have the data for TOW-2B's penetration depth, but type 99's front armor will survive TOW-2A's 900 mm penetration depth since it has an equivalent of 1100 mm of armor. In comparison, T-72's front armor is only rated at 560 mm, easily penetrated by TOW-2B.

T-72's armor is great for its time, but by the 90s, its armor and fire power is rather lacking comparing to other top of the line tank of the time. (Which is not surprising, since it was designed to be a cheaper and more mobile alternative to T-80 in the first place)

we know what T72bv3m performs, whose engine system and fcs are similar to T90s.
it wont be much a problem even to 96A

T-72B & T-90... LOL, better to buy tanks from Russian.
Not really. The exercise had all three tanks in use - both the T-72B+T90 combo along with Arjun MkI. This was in 2008. The reason we like T90 is we have done a ToT here, hence can manufacture them here.

I am interested in the Chinese MBTs as well, but Chinese combat experience with tanks has been limited, so not sure how they would fare against a real enemy. If you have any case study pls post the link. Thanks. :)

Go Youtube and search "2014 Russia Tank Race" , China ZTZ96A vs T-72B3 hit-and-run competition video, then u will find out who is the best shooter in real battlefield.

Firing accuracy, ZTZ96A much better than T-72B3, ZTZ96A is the only one MBT not miss all targets in whole competition. ZTZ96A hit all targets with full speed, but T-72B3 stop and fire still miss the target. :o:

Russia is reported to have won the Gold. Armenia got the silver and China - bronze.
Not bad for China, considering Armenian tanks are Russians only.

Even then, this was only an obstacle course. Only the mobility and maneuverability was tested here.It is possible that the Chinese tanks may outclass Russian tanks in firepower and communications. Another factor is that China is perhaps not that willing to sell their tanks to India, while Russia is. :)

China sent ZTZ96A to join 2014 Russia Tank Race, but u knew ZTZ96A is just inferior tank in PLA Army:

PLA's MBT level:ZTZ99A2 (1,500 hp) >> ZTZ99G (1,200 hp) >> ZTZ96A (800 hp)

Chinese had showed off their ZTZ96A in Russia, China still has better MBT in hands.

May be their stability is still being improved, being newer. The Chinese armed forces are bound to have good MBTs. It is expedient you have a very substantial fuel reserve to be able to use these tanks in the worst case scenarios. Or may be have coal to gas plants as a stop-gap measure - so that oil shortage is somewhat overcome.

Are the newer tanks inducted into the Armoured forces? Also have the Chinese collaborated/sold/shared their tech with any other country?

Of course, above pics of new ZTZ99A2 from August SCO “2014 Peace Mission” military exercise. Since 2013 ZTZ99A2 MBTs had formally joint PLA Army's armoured force.

As far as i knew, only shared tank tech with Pakistan.

These are absolutely fresh! :D The camo paint is also not there.
A 125 mm long bore, along with three MGs as secondary armament! This is a beast. :)
How is the armor?
The armor is the secret data, even China official didn't provide details. The rumor said almost 1m thick solid armor of front turret, it's just a rumor.
