Bangladesh has total 576 or 620 Tank. According to Global Fire Power, Bangladesh has total 276 Tanks while Wikipedia count 320 including upcoming or already arrived 44 VT-5 light Tanks. Both of them yet to include the 300 T-59 Tanks which China gifted us few years ago and are now being rebuild as T-59G Durjoy Mark-II. We already know that, Bangladesh army rebuilt 174 T-59 into T-59G Durjoy Mark-I. Mark-II is a farther improvement over Mark-I series.

In this video, it is claimed that T-59G Durjoy Mark-I,II can destroy 500 mm armor from a distance of 2 km while Indian Arjun Tanks can destroy only 200 mm armor and Ukranian Oplot-M Tanks 400 mm armor from a similar distance. Wikipedia also support this fact.

Bangladesh may have smaller number of Tanks, but all the Tanks are upgraded or re-built to the latest technology and this process is ongoing for Durjoy Mark-II Tanks.

Farther input about the latest development concerning the conversion of those 300 T-59 Tanks gifted by China into T-59G Durjoy Mark-II will be appreciated.

Type 59 174+ (300 under upgrades) =474
Type 69 58
Mbt 2000 44
vt-4 44
Total 620

Two more regiments will be equipped in future with MBT... and 140 vt4 planned
So total figure by 2030 will be around 600-800 tanks
Type 69 is end of life... so most probably will serve reconnaissance and support for mechanized infantry
Well it's a good thing that we are getting experience, hopefully, will one day lead to a powerful indigenous armor industry
Will need to buy base design so altay, armata, k2, possible Leo 3 seems like the future... as Leo 2 is nearing obsolescence. although this is definitely post 2030

If I may add my two cents.

You are right in that the earlier versions of Leopard 2 (up to 2A4) will be obsolete soon and retired from armies around the world, including Canadian C2 Mexas. Also (if downgraded) equivalent to Arjun MBT. They use the slab side square-ish looking turret.

But Later ones like 2A5, 2A6, 2A6M, 2A7 are all newer machines and will easily see another decade of service. These all have a different turret (edges are sharper) and much upgraded sensor and armaments (main gun made by German company instead of Royal Ordnance product). Since hull is same, the older 2A4's in some armies are being sold back to Germany and they are refurbishing and upgrading them to 2A7 standard which is the latest (with new type turret that started with 2A5 version).

I feel we should get maybe couple of dozen tanks like this to refurbish and maybe try out the capability for elite units. I don't even know if Bangladesh uses newer APFSDS and Sabot rounds in the newer Durjoy guns.

I read somewhere bd does use APFSDS and they’re of tungsten variety
And yes, 2A5-2A7 are capable machines, we should be on the lookout if Singapore decides to sell theirs... we should snag them up.
Last pic tank is based on Leo 1 which is more of a armored personnel carrier with a tank gun than anything. Virtually no armor

How old are these type 59 hulls ?
Tank hull remain serviceable for at least 80 years. The oldest T-59 tank in the world is 57 years old(serial production beginning in 1963). Our's are unlikely to be more than 40-50 years old. So the age of T-59 is not the problem. Bangladesh army is entirely rebuilding T-59 with latest technology. Only the hull is old. These Durjoy Tanks are equivalent to the best Tanks in our neighborhood.
