KORAPUT (ODISHA): Two hardcore Maoists, allegedly involved in about eight cases, were arrested from Narayanpatna area of Odisha's Koraput district today.

The red rebels, identified as Arjun Meleka and Musuri Wateka of Narayanpatna area, were nabbed by security force personnel during a special operation in the Naxal-hit zone, Koraput Superintendent of Police Awinash Kumar said.

Possible involvement of the ultras in the recent abduction of BJD MLA from Laxmipur constituency in the district was also being examined, police said, adding "specific information in this regard is likely to emerge during interrogation of the duo."

The ultras, active in the area for quite a long time, were involved in about eight criminal cases including murder, landmine explosion, extortion and attack on attach on security forces in the area, the SP said.

Combing operation and patrolling by security forces had been intensified in the Maoist hotbed as part of an exercise to locate other ultras, police said.

Police arrest seven Maoists, recover arms in Ranchi


Ranchi, June 27 (ANI): Jharkhand Police has arrested seven Maoists and recovered a huge arms and ammunition cache from their hideout near here.
Speaking to media, Senior Superintendent of Police, Saket Kumar Singh, said, "In a joint operation between Ranchi Police, Khunti Police and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) 196, we arrested seven people in total, out of which three, are associates of Kundan Pahan, and the rest four, are arms suppliers."
Police said 3,795 electronic detonators, about 9,800 ordinary detonators, one ton of explosives, including nine quintals of ammonium nitrate, 1900 meters of fuse wire, six gelatin pieces, 20,000 rupees, four mobile sets and a motorcycle were recovered during the operation.
Over the last few years, the Maoists have stepped up their attacks against the government and locals. People have complained about increased Maoist killings and abductions.
According to certain reports, the Maoists are facing an acute shortage of personnel in central and eastern India due to security operations launched by the government to neutralize insurgent activity in 20 of India's 28 states.
Maoists have a significant presence in the tribal and rural regions of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. (ANI)
