Turkey's opposition strikes blow to Erdogan with Istanbul mayoral win

.
Ya, I think he is already too long in power, it is not good for AKP future. He shouldn't sacrifice party future for the sake of his own ambition. Silencing opposition and media should also be avoided in any democratic country. If he is too harsh with opposition and media like what we are seeing now in Turkey there will be revenge when the opposition win the next election. The condition like that is not healthy in any democratic country. The military can come again and make another coup if they see civil society are too divided and hate each other, the situation that is similar like happening in Egypt and Thailand. In any democratic country, opposition should be put in a respected place and their right should be protected since their role to balance the government power is actually a noble act.
Actually the opposition has their own tv. own news channels.. they were the established ones.. Erdogan never did anything against democracy.. as i mentioned, ost of Turks still would love to choose him as a president. But, they want local rulers be different,

.
Actually. i can tell you from Turkish view point. Erdogan didnt loose his supporters. Still most of the people in Turkey loves his foreign policy and his character. But, they dont want him to be only one in power and they believe people near him, using his popularity to do wrongdoings. everybody also wanted to test Erdogans attitude towards democracy.. He actually won lots of heart in this election as he accepted losing the election and no problem about it.. It will also stop any kind of protest from Turkish people in the future as they saw that they and untop him with election, no need to violence..
As i said, most of the Turkish people still trust him and he will be choosen like a president again if there is an election. But, people really wanted to give a try to other people as they will be more enerjectic that AKP candidate who was old
Policy is not fixed opposition can win all turkey by growing economy people just want easy life

How about the news telling about so many journalist are being jailed in Turkey ?

And also about Gulen follower that are being suppressed inside Turkey ?

.
It was mostly those who like alcohol that voted against Erdogan...

those journalists are arrested years and years ago because of Gulen. it is not happening niw. Today, if you understand Turkish, you will see that so many normal journalist around and they say whatever they want. they just made a view of Turkey bad...
just imagine of your country, your prime minister, defence minister, inteligence shief, ll those high guys talk about operation to syria, and gulen guys record those talk and news share it. it is against Turkish law too

.
This is power of the democracy. There are still countries in the world ruled by arabian and african kings. Erdogan made mistakes and the people punished him. I feel sorry for the peoples who have no election and vote right in the world..

I really don’t understand the situation with Erdogan. A lot if Turkish sentiment online is very much against him, but so is a lot of the Western right-wing, Israeli media which also hates Erdogan because they feel he is too strong a voice for Turkey.

How can Turkish nationalist and neo-con in US, rabid Breitbart type equally hate Erdogan?

Please don't compare Turkish "democracy" with actual Western democracy if you don't want to be a laughing stock. Even less so throughout history or even during the era of Erdogan.

I feel sad that an entire nation was hijacked by a dictator (your founding father) who imposed his French secularism (totally alien and foreign system to you) and combined that with some imaginary "Turkish nationalism" bordering semi-fascism where the majority of the population (non-Turks) had to adopt Turkish culture, 100 year old constructed Turkish surnames (less than 100 years ago there were no surnames in Turkey), their languages banned etc.

Later to turn into a NATO satellite state (without choice or consulting the people as well) due to otherwise being swallowed up the USSR next door.

Funny how you miraculously forgot all the Central Asian (actual Turkic countries) being dictatorships ruled by the same people for 30+ years running. Some of the more insane example is Turkmenistan.

Yes, not all Arab countries are "democracies" and neither do they need to be as long as they are doing very well on most fronts which is the case of the GCC as an example. Less political freedom but otherwise better lives on every other front. I know what I would choose especially as Turkey has been ruled by numerous dictators, military dictators and now a guy like Erdogan who is as democratic as North Korea is a "peoples" republic.

But hey, I forgot that I am talking to an Arab-obsessed individual.

Where is that fake "half Arab" ( ) kid that was exposed and half Pakistani who is unable to read or write a single language spoken in Pakistan to suck some Turkish ***? He is missed.

No country in the world jails more journalists and political prisoners yet we have Turks here giving lectures about "democracy".

Indonesia is lightyears ahead.

I hope you can choose your king with your vote soon. Who will be your new king? The son of the king's son? His grandson? I eliminated the king's daughter because she's never gonna be president. Yes, yesterday, a politician defeated Erdogan with the votes of the people. This is a very nice experience and I hope you will experience it one day.

Why did you ignore all the factual points that I just mentioned in the post that you quoted? Did the truth hurt?

Listen, nobody here has claimed that KSA or all Arab states are democracies (lol). Unlike you who claim many absurd things about Turkey without looking at the mirror that looks straight back at you.

What use is democracy when your people elect individuals like Erdogan? Democracy is not a perfect system at all. It is due to democracy that you have failed to defeat the PKK for 40+ years running and due to democracy that many areas of Eastern Turkey are pro-PKK/pro-Ocalan hellholes where even the Turkish police have difficulties controlling events.

Tons of countries are doing more than fine without democracy. In fact most of the world. China being one such country.

And let us be honest Turkey is not a full-fledged democracy under Erdogan. It never really was. Look at every such ranking.

Here are some Western sources that you love to post so much in relation to Arabs:

https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-world/2018/turkey

I am not a fan of democracy for the masses but of a meritocracy if you are interested so I have no interest in promoting democracy of the masses.

There are no presidents in monarchies (maybe you did not know but now you know) and monarchies are not elected. Likewise queens do not rule if there are kings. I am sure you know this. However people in KSA can vote in municipal elections as well and I have never heard about municipal elections being cancelled like happened recently in Istanbul despite the leader in power losing.

But do not worry I am sure that we will be blessed with democracy as well and maybe a new Erdogan? Can't wait. Voting once every 4 years for a select few power-hungry and corrupt politicians (just like in Turkey and our part of the world and most of the world) is the ideal solution.

No country in the world chops journalists in pieces:-)... Turks can lecture you democracy because you don't have it.....:(

Great arguments.

No country in the world chops journalists in pieces:-)... Turks can lecture you democracy because you don't have it.....:(

And you can lecture us about jailing more journalists than any other country in the world and political opponents. Nor do you. Stop acting like you are some kind of Western democracy or even comparable to a successful Muslim democracy like Indonesia that is not some freak construct based on a copy of French secularism (forced with violence) and some fake semi-fascist "Turkish nationalism" when 5% of you have actual Turkic origins.

You should. Maybe you would not have so many traitors in power and PKK fanboys.:-)

A Saudi (don't call him Arab, 'cause he's French with some sort of identity issues, according to many user on this board) teaching Turkey on how democracy works. lmao

Sure, I am actually a fellow Zaza Kurd that lives in Germany. Might be your cousin. I should travel to Turkey to learn what democracy is (lol).

Anyway seems that the end of your beloved Erdogan is near. Failed everywhere else in the region (MB project) and now failing at home despite the farce of calling another municipal election in Istanbul after losing the first time.:(
