Turkey Kicked out Israel from Anatolian Eagle 2009

The present Turkish govt has leaning towards Islam. Remember the walkout of Reccip Tayyip Urdugan on Gaza attack. Turkey will inshaallah slowly come towards the Islamic world. As the present news shows they don't accept Israeli aggression on Gaza. Regarding formation of Greater Islamic Khilafah we must first get rid of our puppet and munaiq rulers in most of muslim countries.
Reddys and Raos can not understand this thing so better not to be angry with them. hahaha

Israel says Turkey more radical

JERUSALEM, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Turkey's decision to cancel Israel's participation in a joint military exercise may jeopardize strategic ties, an Israeli government official said.

Israeli government officials fear Turkey's decision is an attempt to form a closer alliance with Iran, an unnamed Israeli government official told Maariv Monday.

Turkey Thursday informed Israel it would not allow the Israel Air Force to participate in the Anatolian Eagle exercise because it was concerned the aircraft Israel intended to send had bombed Hamas targets in the Gaza offensive.

On hearing of Turkey's decision, the United States, Italy and Holland withdrew their participation, Haaretz said.

"There are fears here and also among leading western countries that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is determined to turn Turkey into a more radical Islamic country," a senior Israeli government official told Maariv.

Turkey has portrayed itself as a secular Muslim country seeking membership in the European Union, the official said. Erdogan appears to be intent on engaging in a process that will endear him to Iran and turn Turkey into a religious Muslim country, the official said.

Israeli officials told The Jerusalem Post the situation calls for the sales of advanced weapons sales to Turkey to be reviewed. A senior Israeli diplomatic official cautioned against taking drastic action in response to Turkey's stand, saying Israel should not act abruptly, the newspaper said.

Turkish foreign ministry on Israel's statement about 'Anatolian Eagle Exercise'

Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it was not correct to add political meanings to Turkey's decision on cancellation of international part of the multi-national Anatolian Eagle air defense exercise, calling on Israeli officials to act with common-sense in their statements and attitudes.
The ministry told a statement on Monday, "the Anatolian Eagle is one of the concerted drills of the Turkish Air Forces which has been held regularly since 2001 with the international participation."

"The first two stages of this year's exercises were conducted successfully. But international part of the third stage which was earlier scheduled to be carried out on October 12 and 23 was cancelled in consultation with the other participating countries. But, the exercise is continuing as a national event. Therefore, it is not correct to impose political meanings to Turkey's decision to cancel international part of the multi-national Anatolian Eagle air defense exercise," it said.

"To this end, it is also impossible to accept assessments and comments published in media organs in reference to Israeli authorities. We call on Israeli officials to act with common-sense in their statements and attitudes," the ministry added.

U.S. upset at Turkey for pulling pin on Israel

The U.S. has reacted badly to a move by Turkey to exclude the Israel Air Force from a multi-national forces air drill.

Angered by the move the U.S. government has withdrawn its forces from the exercise, being held at an air base in the central Anatolian city of Konya.

Italy and the Netherlands have also canceled their participation in protest at the exclusion of Israel.

Turkey says its move is because of Israel's Cast Lead offensive in Gaza late last year and early this year. The offensive resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 Palestinians, which Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described as genocide. Erdogan is also upset that he met with the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert within a day of the offensive and was not told of Israel's plans. He says he was misled by Olmert and was "betrayed."

The Turkish prime minister also clashed with Israeli President Shimon Peres at Davos in January after declaring that Israel should be tried for war crimes.

The U.S. is a steadfast ally of Israel and within hours of the Turkish decision had canceled its involvement and secured similar pledges from Italy and the Netherlands, two of a number of NATO countries taking part in the military exercise.

Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak says he does not read too much into the move, stressing the relationship between Israel and Turkey is strategic and has lasted "dozens of years."

An Israeli official however on Monday was quoted by Haaretz newspaper as saying, "It may be that the reality has changed and the strategic ties that we thought existed have simply ended. Maybe we need to be the ones who initiate renewed thinking regarding our ties and must adopt response measures."

This is an interesting development, and it may have far reaching implications. But we shouldn't read too much into it - just yet. While the Turkish government has "Islamic leanings", the Turkish army is still the most powerful state institution, and it is still staunchly secular. My prediction is that the Turkish government will try to cool things down in the coming days, and normalize relations with the US and Israel.

This may be a portent for things to come though. Everybody, including the US, Israel, the EU and the Turkish Army are watching closely. We are moving towards a critical point where either the army will stage a coup and reassert Turkey's secular identity; or to a point where the army will more or less fall in line with the government's foreign policy, in which case tough times lie ahead for Turkey and its people. Let's hope for the best.

Turkey TV series further strains Israel relations

JERUSALEM, Oct 15 (Reuters) - A Turkish television drama series depicting an Israeli soldier shooting dead a Palestinian baby put more strain on Thursday on relations between Israel and Turkey, a Muslim strategic ally.

Previously close ties between the Jewish state and Muslim Turkey have deteriorated somewhat since Israel's offensive in the Palestinian Gaza strip. Turkey has at the same time strengthened its relations with neighbouring Syria.

Israel summoned a Turkish diplomat to protest at what it called "state-sponsored incitement" by TRT television's "Separation" series, in which actors playing Israeli soldiers and Palestinians fight street battles in Jerusalem.

"The series, which has no connection to reality whatsoever, is not even suitable for an enemy country and certainly not for a country that has full diplomatic relations with Israel," Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said in a statement.

The scene, broadcast on Israel's Channel Two television on Wednesday, shows a Palestinian father holding a baby up above his head and an Israeli soldier in full combat gear taking aim and shooting the infant.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman said Israel summoned the deputy chief of mission at the Turkish embassy to protest at the "highly inflammatory" scenes aired on state-owned TRT.

Turkish officials in Ankara and Tel Aviv were not immediately available for comment.

Turkey barred Israel from participating in a NATO war exercise this week and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said the move was a result of public concerns over the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip earlier this year.

The drill was postponed indefinitely after other nations, including the United States and Italy, refused to take part without Israel's air force.

Turkey, a secular state with a Muslim population, has been a key strategic ally of Israel, but relations have cooled over Erdogan's outspoken criticism of Israel's three-week offensive in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip in December and January.

There are two reasons for Turkeys refuselt to host Israel in Anatolian Eagle. The first is domestic politics, there is deep dislike for Israel, since the massacres in Palestine, on every level of Turkish society, even among the Kemalists/Secularists, so AKP can only win, if it reduces the relationship with Israel.
Secondly, Turkey has adopted a new foreign policy doctrine which is called "Strategic Depth", this policy was formulated by Davutoglu the Turkish Foreign Minister, in short it calls for good relations with all our neigbours including Iran and Syria, that are enemies of Israel. I think for this reason it is just logical that we had to downgrade our relation to Israel.

p.s. This is my first post here, so I want to greet all of you.:pakistan:

More on Turkeys new foreign policy....

Learning strategic depth: implications of Turkey's new foreign policy doctrine

While Davutoglu and his book were largely ignored in 2001 as representing little more than the musings of an academic with a pro-Islamic background, the national election results of November 3, 2002 quickly changed everything. In that election, the newly established Justice and Development Party (AKP), was voted into power, and, for the first time, a party with explicitly Islamist roots had an overwhelming majority in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA). (3) Given the AKP's lack of foreign policy experience and Davutoglu's stellar credentials as a devout Muslim and an influential international relations scholar, the AKP party leader and now prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan quickly asked Davutoglu to be his chief foreign policy advisor. From this perch, Davutoglu has largely been given a free hand to shape Turkey's foreign policy in light of his own strategic depth doctrine for the past five years.

.....

What is Strategic Depth?

The concept of "Strategic Depth" in Turkish foreign policy refers to the academic work of Professor Ahmet Davutoglu, who published his Turkish international relations book of the same title in 2001. The main thesis of Davutoglu's book is that a nation's value in world politics is predicated on its geo-strategic location and historical depth. Following the logic of Davutoglu's proclaimed theory, Turkey is uniquely endowed both because of its location in geopolitical areas of influence, particularly its control of the Bosporus, and its historical legacy of the Ottoman Empire. (2) While traditional measures of Turkey's national power tend to overlook the cultural links fostered by a shared common history, Davutoglu emphasizes Turkey's connections to the Balkans, the Middle East, and even Central Asia. In the same vein, Davutoglu argues that Turkey is the natural heir to the Ottoman Empire that once unified the Muslim world and therefore has the potential to become a Muslim regional power. Beyond the academic discussions surrounding Turkey's potential and place in the world, Strategic Depth advocates seeking to counterbalance Turkey's dependencies on the West by courting multiple alliances to maintain the balance of power in its region. The premise of this argument is that Turkey should not be dependent upon any one actor and should actively seek ways to balance its relationships and alliances so that it can maintain optimal independence and leverage on the global and regional stage.

Turkey and Iran are natural allies. This stems from a lot of Iraninan people of Turkish descent and vice versa. I can only hope we also make good relations with these two countries better.

Someone brought up the OIC. IMHO, this unwieldy gig reflects nothing more than Arabist sentimentality in the wake of the 1967 humiliation. Granted, I have little indepth knowledge about it so I am willing to be educated here.

In my mind, the OIC gives the appearance of "Ummah" without any tangible benefit of one.

But leaving OIC aside, and as a Christian Chinese Canadian (how'd you like the "CCC"?), far be it from me to second-guess what the "Ummah"'s hearts desire.

But nevertheless, I have started to wonder whether the key to a new "Great Game" in central Asia, if not across the wider Muslim world, is a new "CENTO". Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, this dawned on me when I began pondering whether there was a "method" to Mr. Erdogan's rhetorical "madness" in the wake of Xinjiang unrest in July.

A part of me was obviously turned off by a perceived intemperance. However, another part of me - particularly after some research, came to a different conclusion. And we'll see if it will stand the test of time ... There is no sense in me veering off topic - so excuse me for not discussing this any further.

And the topic is Turkey's "strategic depth", which in an idealized version, would (IMO) distill into one word - "Khorasan". Turkey may have to mend its ways with Syria and other Arab states, now that Northern Kurdistan is all but a Balkanized fait accompli happily butting against Turkey's soft belly in this thing called "Iraq".

However, the game with Iran has to be a little bigger than just to strike an alliance to keep the Kurdish thing from getting completely our of hand, if you will.

The game is to "transcend" it.

If I have to personally distill a list of the Muslim nations down to those of "consequence" today and likely into tomorrow, I have just three:

Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan (W-->E geographically)

The  truth on the reality of Turkey's "strategic depth" today is that it can't even reach Azerbaijan with an outstretched arm, let alone the Turanian Central Asia, which mother Russia graciously released from her 70 yrs of "foster care" in the 1990s.

Geographically, the only way for Turkey to reach across with any degree of meaning is through Iran. There is simply not a second route over land.

Now what meaning does this shudra ascribe to this "gesture" of the Turks? Probably has comparatively little to do with Gaza per se, which was in the past.

More importantly, Mr. Erdogan has extracted enough brownie points he needed from the Gaza debacle (not to say the feelings in the Turkish establishment and on the streets weren't genuine).

But as some others alluded to already: it has everything to do with Iran.

It's both a warning to Israel to keep the fighter-bombers grounded, as well as a "message" to Iran that should Izzy sorties are launched some day, Turkey's hands are clean ...

Turkey has excellent relations with Iran and would never let Israel use thier territory to attack Iran.

Iran does not have good relations with any country in the world. Today CNN was reporting that Israel is furious about a drama serial on the Turkish State TV in which Israeli Palestinian conflict was shown. I think there is much more in these developments than just Iran.
