KARACHI, Pakistan

Turkey's state-run aid agency on Tuesday distributed stationery and school supplies to needy students in southwestern Pakistan.

A year's supply was handed out to 500 students at a ceremony held in the port city of Gwadar, according to a statement from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

TIKA, which is carrying out this project in collaboration with Pakistan’s state-run National Commission for Human Development, has selected four government schools as its beneficiary in the first phase.

Ibrahim Katirci, program coordinator of TIKA, said the agency was striving to create education opportunities for under privileged children.

"This project will freshen the long-standing brotherhood between Turkey and Pakistan, who have stood beside each other in all trying times,” Katirci said.

Several local dignitaries, including General Manager of National Commission for Human Development Altaz Sakhi and Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Anees Gorgaji attended the ceremony.

Established in 1992, Turkey's government-run aid agency is responsible for implementing the country's developmental cooperation policies overseas.

TIKA has been running several welfare projects in southern Sindh and southwestern Balochistan provinces.

The Makrani of Pakistan were brought from Africa during oman rule.

Even since Omanis left, they were left on their own. Now as Gwadar rises, these people will be one of the first to benefit.

These children look so cute and innocent, with incredible smile. May Allah bless them with success and they all get to have whatever they wish.

Friends, TIKA is one of the world's largest charities in the fields of education, health, restoration, agricultural development, finance, tourism. Its main objective is to revive our common culture and history and to reinforce our sense of brotherhood.

Please send email TIKA (or contact the TIKA authorities at our consulates ) about our children in there living with difficulties where in your hometown, or about our common historical and cultural assets that have not been revived yet.

Maybe a small step for us, but a big step for our beautiful children who won't have to walk to their school :) In Balochistan, many children have to walk miles every day to reach their schools. Therefore, TIKA decided to contribute its share to resolve this problem. The coordinator said that since Balochistan has the least percentage of school-going children, the bus with the slogan “Let’s go to school Balochistan!” will motivate other children as well to pursue education. Also solar energy system installations in five villages of the region, aimed at providing electricity to the homes of families, is also under way.
