New evidence on the sending of Tunisian mercenaries to Syria to join gangs fighting to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad, revelead Syrian media today.
An article of the Tunisian newspaper al-Shuruk, which SANA news agency echoes Saturday, noted that in Sidi Bouzid city, in the south of the country, young people are being recruited by force to send them to this Levantine nation to fight in what they call Jihad or holy war.
According to the newspaper, a group is already in Turkey, where they receive training before entering combat.
Several sources indicate that recruits in Turkish territory undergo intensive training for one month, during which they are trained in handling various types of weapons and irregular combat.
The source added that at least a dozen of them have died in clashes with the Syrian Armed Forces.
The source also added that many citizens demanded the authorities to interfere in order to save young people and detect people and networks recruiting them to force them to fight in Syria.
The young people coming from Tunisia are treated as slaves and prisoners in the Syrian mercenary groups, which leads to escape and return to their place of origin, stressed the source.
In early March, the Tunisian Tanit Presse newspaper described the event as a new episode of the Tunisian youth Holocaust because there are networks that pay and encourage poor youngsters to come to fight in Syria amidst the official silence of the authorities of that country.
