Pakistani consumers continue confidence in Govt

Friday, August 01, 2014 - Islamabad—Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the country’s economy has clearly improved due to effective policies of the present Government. He was commenting on the latest consumer confidence report released by Nielsen Holdings, a global information and measurement company with leading market positions in marketing and consumer information.

The report says consumer confidence has increased by 14 points to 99 in Pakistan. The report said continuity of policies and political stability was a must for economic development. Pakistan consumer confidence rose to its highest level since 2008 with an index of 99 in the first quarter of 2014, according to consumer confidence findings from Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy. The Pakistan index which recorded its lowest score of 86 in Q3 2011-represents a two-point increase from Q4 2013 and a 12-point increase from a year ago (Q1 2013). “Pakistani consumers continue to express confidence in the incumbent government-the first ever to have transitioned democratically from another elected government last year,” said Mustafa Moosajee, managing director, Nielsen Pakistan.

“This appears to be an endorsement that the economy is showing signs of recovery, behind reforms and stabilization introduced by the current administration. Macroeconomic and security challenges, however, continue to weigh on the economy.”—INP
