Trump seeks 'historic' increase of 9pc in defence spending

Let me add:

$100B increase in defence budget would have improved health and education for the masses.
Let US take just this one item since it implies the US is somehow heartless...

Just for the government alone, the National Institute of Health (NIH) annually spends over 30 bils to support medical research, most of them do not yield any tangible results for yrs after the initial funding, and NIH keeps supporting these various projects. Then there is the private sector. Combined, the US spends over 100 bils per yr for the same. And we share the knowledge.

I wonder how much Pakistan spends and contribute...

America is not getting weaker other countries are getting stronger

Trump is trying to lead economic recovery by rearming itself..its an formula..the problem is that once you have rearmed..you cannot have all of this sitting and collecting depreciation..so sooner or later you will go to war..and that means..world war threee!

This is exactly how the Germans got started..in WW2..

Trump joining hands with Modi possibilities are more

Trump seems to be friendly with Russia and angry with China

Not much use, rampant corruption and mismanagement, military industry complex corruption to the core to benefit themselves only at the cost of society and tax payers, needless wars every 2 years

plus a common solder charge $200 an hour, a DOD janitor makes 5000 a month. Other country get things done with a fraction of cost.

"Not much use"....you keep telling yourself that. All the money the US has invested in defense over the years has lead to the most potent military force in human history, including projects that eventually lead to GPS and the Internet.

This increase will accelerate the modernization of the US Armed Forces, which clearly some members on here are unhappy about.

Such a simplistic view of geopolitics from an Indian. No matter how much Trump tries to befriend Putin, the majority of the inner circle inside US government is hostile against Russia. The power of a president only goes to a certain point. Trump has been constantly under attack during his one Month in Office. His loyal allies had to quit their jobs because of scandals, especially Flynn who made contact with the Russians. Trump in order to save his a$$ had to make Flynn resign. All the criticism surrounding the Russian hacking the votes, Trump eager befriend Putin had jeopardized Trump's position. So now he's starting to change tactics, increase hostility towards Putin.

Q: Who is the least productive members of a country ?

A: The military.

Think about it. The military produces nothing but actually only consumes. Farmers produces food. Inventors produces experiments and manufacturers produces products from those experiments. Even capitalists produces more tangible resources. But the military produces nothing but only consumes.

Even so, every country have a military, no matter how large or small that country. Every country have justifications as to why it needs to create and sustains this non-productive member of society by way of a percentage of its wealth. The military produces only one intangible item: A feeling of security.

That is it. Just a feeling. Hunger and thirst can be satisfied by real things. But a feeling can only persuaded away.

So before people criticizes US for our military spending, examine your own country. Dismantle your military before you can get on your juvenile moral toy rocking horse and criticize US.

I don't think he will take the risk of getting direct confrontation with Russia. ISIS is bigger threat to US at present as it will hamper its west Asia game plans. Further confrontations with Russia is not worth as all US present military plans are at it's maximum level against Russia. Instead a military issues with China will give new opportunity to substantiate reason for raising defence budget and new induction plans.

Trump is a business man, weapons business lobby will work for him and read situation from that point.

Why is US increasing troops in Poland? Why is Trump saying US gotta have more nukes than Russia? Russia is against THAAD in South Korea too just like China. If you think Trump will succeed breaking the strategic tie between CN & RU you have no idea how wrong you will be. Keep watching the show, this 4 year Trump administartion will be very interesting if any war breaks out.

earlier decisions taken by Obama, it cannot be considered as Trump's decisions. It will take time see the effects.

Sure, I will be watching him and I am confident that his target will be China.

On second thought, if your country have a military and it seeks increase in its budget, instead of a moral high horse you can get on to criticize US, this is the kind of horse you are qualified for...

Keep in mind that if you get on it, we will be looking down at you.

How many wars have you won since 1945?.....and I ain't kidding against WWII pussys.......but against real opponents?

If you win against Russia/ China/ Iran, even once...........you can come here and brag, but until then, keep trying with even higher budgets.....good luck. :sarcastic:
