WASHINGTON, Sept 18 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the United States is considering a request from Poland for a permanent U.S. military presence in the fellow NATO country.

Poland has repeatedly requested a permanent U.S. military presence on its soil amid fears of Russian aggression, offering up to $2 billion in funding for such a base. U.S. soldiers are now present on its soil through NATO's back-to-back rotation.

Russia expressed concern in May over reports about Poland's request, saying NATO’s expansion towards Russia’s borders undermined stability in Europe.

"Poland is willing to make a very major contribution to the United States to come in and have a presence in Poland, and certainly it's something we'll discuss," Trump said at the White House before a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

"We're looking at it very seriously, I know Poland likes the idea very much, and it's something that we are considering, yes," he said.

Poland joined NATO in 1999 along with Hungary and the Czech Republic, and since then other former communist states, including Baltic republics bordering Russia, have joined despite Moscow’s strong opposition.

Warsaw could offer up to $2 billion in funding for a U.S. military base, according to a Polish Defense Ministry proposal reported by Polish media. A government source in Poland confirmed to Reuters that such a proposal had been made.

Trump also said the United States was considering a visa waiver program for Poland.

Evem if hey have only 1000 US Troops in Poland, Russia would think 100times more if they could invade it...

What European nation did the USA invaded the last 10years? None...
Who stationed 30.000 troops along the boarder of the baltic states which have together less than 5.000troops and no heavy equipment... not the USA...it was Russia... and the NATO responded to this agressive movement by showing their present in their partner nations...
Who stole land from a independent nation, which is till today international not accepted by all UN members expect Russia ;)

The east European have no interest to get under russian "peace" and "freedom" again....

This is a violation of the fundamental Russia-NATO treaty of 1997, which prohibits the permanent deployment of US troops in Eastern Europe.

Yes it is and what are you going to do about it? Nothing, take my word for it. Putin is very decisive against the Syrian people but this not Syria. So, I'll assume that he'll quietly swallow it like a good boy.

You guys are the last to talk about signed treaties and etc.

ps Poles are smart people who follow their interests. They know that deepening the relationship with America will bring them not only military protection but also investments and technologies plus a strong backer of their interests in the region.

Even with no American presence Russia can’t invade Poland without losing soo much that it will not be worth it to try though. Poland is neither Georgia nor Ukraine of a few years back. Poles have a strong economy and very potent armed forces plus a very patriotic nation that will not hesitate to fight for their country.

Yep. Poles are the smartest people in Central Europe. That is why they always have bad relations with their nearest neighbors - Russia and Germany, but good relations with distant overseas countries like Britain and USA.
Very smart.
This smart policy already cost them 4 partitions. But they keep it the same way. Just genius.

The US has interfered in over 81 elections around the world. They have helped install pupet governments in countries where they have military bases.

And I'm sure many people in Japan, Germany and South Korea loves those US military bases. Actually almost every country from Syria to Canada, to Turkey has US bases. In which the US either invades, bribes or helps install puppet governments and when someone gets out of line the US just bombs them or uses economic warfare in forms of sanctions and tariffs.

What European nation did the USA invaded the last 10years? None...

The US set up military bases all over Europe (Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Bosnia, Macedonia, Germany--34 bases, UK, Kosovo, Turkey) during and after WW2 and never left, there is no need for the US to invade anyone in Europe since they already did that. They also invaded Syria and Libya. They are also still in Iraq and Afghanistan, all over Africa and Yemen as well. Yugoslavia was also bombed and NATO carved it up into many countries with the US setting up multiple military bases.

The US also helped overthrow the Ukrainian government. US politicians including Vice Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Senator John McCaine were in Keiv during the chaos, encouraging further violence against the government and having closed door meetings with opposition. Not to mention they admitted to giving financial support. They were wire taped discussing installing a puppet government which they succeeded.
Tell me in what world is that acceptable? The and the US complains about Russian Facebook adds

This is what cased Russia to take Crimea. Everyone talks about Russian aggression but no one wants to talk about the US initiating the events that led up to Crimea being seized.

US Criminals in Ukraine which orchestrated Maiden and caused tension with Russia. They hade no business being there, oh but....but Russia interferes in elections because they buy Facebook adds.

The Russian military can 'stage' forces anywhere they please within their border especially when the US, UK and other countries place tanks, soldiers and aircraft on the Russian border. The US and NATO have also been aggressively flying flying spy planes outside Russian borders for decades as well as sailing large naval armadas including aircraft carriers outside Russian waters for decades.

In Syria they have been arming and training terror groups that are at war with Russia, and in many cases the US has been dangerously provoking Russia in Syria by darting in front of Russian aircraft on bombing missions and releasing flares in front of them, not to mention US drones have flew into Russian bases in Syria but.....but big bad Russia is placing soldiers in its own country close to the baltics.

not the USA...it was Russia... and the NATO responded to this agressive movement by showing their present in their partner nations...

Again, the US blatantly went into Ukraine, incited violence against the government, had secret meetings with opposition and gave money to opposition. I can imagine what would happen if Russia helped fuel anti government riots in Australia or Canada and then Russian Politicians would show up in Vienna or Toronto and have meetings with violent opposition groups, and eventually overthrow the governments. I'm sure Germany and the US would just shrug their shoulders right? What's worse is the US played dumb by pretending it totally didn't interfere, like everything was spontaneous in Ukraine.

Who stole land from a independent nation, which is till today international not accepted by all UN members expect Russia ;)

Who went into Ukraine to install an anti Russian government? Ukraine would never have been "stolen" if the US and to some extent Europe minded their own business and kept their brown noses where it belonged.
Russia responded to US aggression and interference in Ukraine which is the birthplace of Russian civilization and history. The US crossed the line in Ukraine.

The US has went fool retarded by accusing Russia of supposedly buying Facebook adds and all of the US puppets have condemned Russia for it but the US can openly overthrow governments such as in Ukraine and Libya and invade Syria as well as many other countries without a wimper from Europe but Russia is out of line because they are in Syria by Syrian invitation. This is the twilight zone

Poles are just about as smart as Turks. The Turks also are 'smart' by licking US boots, so smart that the US has hammered the Turkish economy while still maintaining US bases in the country and supporting Kurds in Syria.

Total geniuses

Under Soviet-friendly government of Najibullah, Afghanistan was a modern country, where girls could wear miniskirts on the streets and where the street looked like any East European street, where children went to school rather than learned how to fight.

And now with an US-backed government, all have been ruined. Afghan must be so happy.

Your opinion is only relative, as many other people, especially the victims of the US-backed Mujahideen and Taliban, may have different views.

However, what I mentioned about is the actual situation before and after the US intervention.
