The iShares MSCI India ETF (INDA) ETF fell more than 1% in the premarket after the tweet was sent. It later recovered to trade along the flatline, however.

Earlier this year, the Trump administration stripped India of a preferential status that exempted billions of dollars worth of products made there from U.S. levies. “I have determined that India has not assured the United States that India will provide equitable and reasonable access to its markets,” Trump said in a proclamation.

India has tariffs on U.S. products such as Harley-Davidson motorcycles and U.S.-grown apples, among others. In June, Trump said India’s 50% levy on Harley-Davidson bikes was “unacceptable.”

The latest escalation comes as the U.S. tries to broker a trade deal with China. U.S. officials are expected to meet with Chinese trade negotiators this week.

How India’s economy grows faster than China

Late last month, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to hold off on slapping additional tariffs on U.S. and Chinese products. China and the U.S. hiked tariffs on billions of dollars worth of each other’s products in May, sparking fears of a prolonged trade war between the world’s largest economies.

The Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for query.

Now Indians are going to flood that tweet, hijack it and go on a favoriting and disliking spree.

It is good though that Trump realizes India is not willing to be mutual, and isn't reliable either.

Pakistan needs this.

Another thing Trump should look into is how Indian IT companies are basically fraudulent establishments. Hundreds of Indian IT companies build fake CVs and lie and cheat their way to put Americans out of jobs and to put unqualified Indians with FAKE "job experience" all over the US. One example of such a company - Sysmind LLC. And there are hundreds of them, if not thousands.

They actually teach fresh grads how to lie about every detail and help them build fraudulent "experiences".

One thing you can say about Trump, he has no friends or enemies, only interests. It's a trait that is growing on me and I'm beginning to respect despite not really liking him as an individual.

haha Trump targets anyone who have trade deficit with them be it Japan, Australia, EU, India. :enjoy:
Pakistan definitely need it.

. . . . .
I like giddy folks on this forum at times, that earth has shattered because someone said something about somebody... We are in the middle of trade wars, this is gonna happen.. more will happen.. Then there will be a deal to buy stuff and deficit will balance.. but yeah, some here can stay giddy :P

.
There is definitely tensions in USA-India romance. Its more than trade. The USA wants India to do more. S400 deal is not viewed positivly in Washington. The USA has finally realized that the anti-Pakistan, Pro-india stance in Afghanistan advocated by American think tanks, the northern alliance and India has failed miserably in practice. It's taking a more balanced regional approach. The honey moon is over.
