The key to a more secure and stable AF/PAK region is through increased interactions and cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Neither Afghanistan, nor Pakistan, would make substantial gains when playing the blame game, nor when isolating each other. The porous border needs vigilant resistance on both sides—even long after U.S. and NATO forces withdraw from Afghanistan.
For this purpose, as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, we have set up the Tripartite Joint Operations Center in Kabul, Afghanistan. Under this, Tripartite conferences are held where representatives from Afghanistan and Pakistan come together to hold strategic talks and bridge the gap between their respective militaries. They discuss key issues to include current operations, near-border incidents, and counter improvised explosive device efforts throughout the region.
Here are some of the photographs taken during these Tripartite Conferences since the beginning of the year.
